Now the next questions:
OS?
Dosbox version?
Your mount lines?

And it's useless to PM me about that matter, the only help I give about those matters in on the forum, I don't do private help sessions.

I have no idea, ask where you downloaded the game?

BTW, you would better search the internet again and look for a CD image, that will work.

Heroes of Might and Magic 2 was released on Windows, you may as well use a copy of that, it plays much nicer.

XP 32 or 64 bit ?
Tried compatibility settings (W95-W98)?
If an error message, what is it?

32 bit. I tried to run 'setup' in compability mode. The wizard starts, i can choose the map where i want to install it etc, but when i click 'install', there is a bar which indicates the status of the installation, but it stays 0%. After a while, there comes an error message, saying that it can't copy the file heroes2.exe

As I have no idea what exactly you've downloaded it's kinda hard to help you....

So some general things:
Was it a CD image?
Do you use a virtual CD drive?

Does the game even need to be installed?

And of course the usual question: can't you ask instructions where you downed the game?

[Edit]
Just checked it and if you have a CD image both versions (MsDos ànd W95) should be on the CD.
The dos version is launched with install
The Win95 version is launched with setup

I can imagine it's kinda hard to help...:shame:

According to one of your posts, I downloaded the CD-image and burned it on a cd. When I insert the cd in my drive, it starts to autorun. When I click play, it first starts to install. Unfortunately I downloaded the CD image from a torrent page ( >snipped<.com) Don't post illegal links please, THX ~dosraider so I can't ask for help there.

Btw, I really appreciate it you helping me man. :D

2 questions:
-> Did you try to install in dosbox? And if yes: how, details please.
-> What format was that CD image? (ISO ..... ?)

FYI:HoMM2 runs fine in dosbox0.74

- Yes I did, I mounted the CD-drive (D) via mount d d:\heroes2\
Than:
D:
dir
install exe

Then the cursor goes to the next line and nothing happens.

The CD image was ISO.

:blah:
That's pretty screwed up I'm afraid ....

What you must do is:
Delete anything you have done till now, it's worthless anyway. Also your already installed game folder under dosbox.
Only keep the ISO file (that's ONE BIG FILE)
You must use the ISO file with imgmount in dosbox.

Something as:

imgmount d x:\correct path\name.iso -t iso
Then in dosbox input:

d:
cd heroes2
install

This will install the dos version in dosbox from D: on C: as the dos installer is in a subdir called heroes2 on the CD.

What you won't have is CD music, you can't have that with an ISO as the HoMM2 CD is a mixed mode CD (You can't have music tracks from a mixed mode CD in ISO format), but I think you will be able to run MIDI music. Digital sound effects should work flawless, they don't use the CD.

Oh, i have 1 small question left.

Yesterday I installed the game and played the whole night long. At the end I saved the game. But when I played today, my game wasn't along the games to load. Is it possible to save in dosbox?

This where my mount lines:
imgmount d c:\users\my name\oldgames\homm2.iso -t iso
d:
cd heroes2
heroes2

After my first turn in a new game, my game quitted with the message in dosbox:
Error opening file .\Games\Autosave.GM1
So I think there's something wrong with my mountlines... Can you tell me what?

Thanks :D

Yes indeed; your mounts are screwed up.
But I can't help you if you do Vista mounts on XP, so what is it :
XP or Vista?

Make up your mind friend.

And yes, when mounted correctly you can save/load in dosbox, no problemo.

Some general tips:
1.BE CORRECT when you give info, I can't help when you give wrong info.
2.You didn't mounted a virtual C: in dosbox
3.You didn't INSTALL the game on your virtual C: IN DOSBOX
4.Follow the instructions, you were playing from the CD, you can't save on a CD

Search for the differences:
