The original version of Tetris, as conceived by Alexey Pajitnov and coded in part by Vadim Gerasimov, this is how it all began! (Gerasimov has released the game for free on the web.) The story of Tetris is long and complicated (see the superb hour long video by the Video Game Historian, The Story of Tetris, to learn all about it!) but the game itself is deceptively simple. If you owned an original Gameboy, chances are you played this! This version of the original includes many of the options familiar to us from later versions including Nintendo's. Gerasimov notes that this version was done in text mode in order to be compatible with the widest variety of machines available at the time. (If you're looking for more elaborate Tetris games with better graphics, more features, etc, check out our Tetris-style games category for plenty of options!)
