No but I know someone who's obsessed with it. I'm suprised you're reading it, you don't seem like the type since it's supposed to be like reading an encyclopedia.

Personally, I've made it one of my ways of life to avoid British authors at all costs. They're typically dull and dry or very pompous and stilted.

Except Roald Dahl. He was a pure genius.

However, I have seen people reading it, and they liked it...so, it shouldn't be too bad.

LOL, if you ignore the brits, how do you know they are boring?

I like a lot of British books, 'Hitchhiker's guide' and Lord of the Rings/Hobbit in particular.

I haven't tried the Silmarillion, from what I can tell it is basically the same as the ROTK appendices. I have tried many times, but I still haven't got through the entire appendices. I start the book saying 'this time I'll do it', but after reading the book again I'll just give up.
