Betryayal At Krondor-crashing?

Post by adam100 »

Hi.
I played BAK to like chapter IV and now each house I enter crashes the game. I'm running it in Dosbox. Anyone got any idea what could be wrong?

Thx in advance , Adam

No, it's a bug in the game that happens in northlands, i cant remember at the moment if there was a patch to take care of that or not. but if you shut off the music (i think only the music maybe it was also the sound but i'm pretty sure it's just the music) it shouldnt crash (this is only in the northlands, so you can shut it off before you enter a house or keep it off when you are in the northlands). Also did you see my other post in reply to your memory problems with the game (adding "emm=RAM" at the end of your config.nt file) becouse i'm not sure but that may have also helped for the problem your having now?

Thank you for your reply though the patch which updated the game to 1.02 version did work and I don't encounter such issues anymore. As to your reply about memory- it didn't help with running in command prompt but it works great in Dosbox with sound and everething.

Have you tried running the game directly (the clicking on Krondor.exe)? it works for me (i mean without going into the command prompt)

Nope, it always gives me the same error- not enough memory. Very odd really , I mean, memory isn't too much a problem nowdays in most games with such brilliant programs as VDM SOUND which simulates memory for dos games and as well the Windows XP compability box where you can set the ammount of memory as well. But whatever I do the stubborn donkey keeps saying i got not enough memory. :)

Have you tried running the game plain after adding "emm=RAM" at the end (without the quotes) to your "Config.nt" file (open it with notepad (you are running xp right?)

Yeah, i tried your suggestion but didn't work. I did find a solution though on the the-underdogs.org forum with using vdmsound. It works quite fine, definitively smoother than on Dosbox, only the mouse tends to move a little bit choppy.

Oh well, it worked for me. About the mouse well, at least it's not an FPS game or something, so while being annoying i'm sure, the game is still playable, i hope you enjoy it, it was one of my all time favorites.
