Windows XP Service Pack 2

While Microsoft tried hard to provide high security for newbies, in the process, Windows XP became a little bit less functional. Some software no longer works, and some stuff is annoying (like Internet Explorer's confirmation download). I therefore decided to install Windows 2000 Pro, so I wouldn't lag behind with the Windows XP SP1.

Therefore, IMHO, SP2 sucks.

What do you guys think?

Personally, I run Mac OS X 10.3.7, so I really don't care.

I don't care. It didn't make a difference to me. At all. Except that I'm less likely to be hacked.

I don't care indeed. I haven't installed it, because it's not really needed. XP is stable enough without it and I don't want to risk my already set up PC falling apart as it happened with some SP2 installations. If I were to install from scratch now, I'd get it, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I think 2000's better than XP anyway. So, good for you!

Yeah. It is faster, and less bloat-ish.

Nah, it has it's own bag of issues. First of all, it deals less well with new computers, hyperthreading and such. It is more sensitive to drivers than XP, supports less stuff on the fly. And all the annoying bloatware of XP can be disabled anyway. I have my XP looking and behaving exactly like a good mix between 98 and 2K should.

At least I got a Willamette P4, and not a Northwood P4 or a Prescott P4, or that other fancy stuff Intel is touting (like the Centrino laptop or the CPUs with those funky processor numbers).

Willamette being the oldest, first batch of Pentium 4 processors, topping out at 2.0 GHz (Mine is 1.5 GHz). No hyperthreading or whatever, pretty much like a super-duper Pentium 3.

Nonetheless, that's the main strength that Microsoft has in releasing new versions of Windows: new hardware. Even if people are 100% satisfied with their current XP/2000/98SE and have absolutely NO intention of buying Longhorn and/or Blackcomb, at least the NEW computers down the road will make Longhorn and Blackcomb worthwhile.

Wintrash Xp service pack 2 did you say?

Bleh..

I tried to turn firewalls off but everytime i turned the ruddy thing off it panicked and said 'Quick Quick we need to change this so that the firewall is on' (Didnt really say) but then i sorta figured that the not monitored setting is best.

If anyone uses Xp SP2 and has another firewall or doesnt want one turn settings to not monitored.

I only installed it because of the automatic update bragging about it *sighs* yet that is another story. :blah:

Actually, I like WinXP. I have a nice PC (not going to show off) and I really like XP, better than 2000. 2k takes way too long to load even on fast comps. Not to mention you have to worry less about drivers and compatibility (or maybe you do for the latter, for DOS games). And it looks nice :) Just crank up the resolution.
