It worked in mice. It worked in monkeys. And now in humans, a therapeutic vaccine has stopped HIV in its tracks.
After getting three under-the-skin injections of the tailor-made vaccine, the amount of HIV in the patients' blood (called the viral load) dropped by 80%. After a year, eight of the 18 patients still had a 90% drop in HIV levels. All patients' T-cell counts stopped dropping.
And my favorite part:
Similar approaches are being explored for the treatment of cancer and long-term viral infections such as hepatitis C.
However, even if this leads to the cure for cancer, i'd worry that we'd end up with a hybred aids or hybred cancer virus that becomes immune. However, I watch too many sci-fi movies.

Hmmmm... the first effective anti-viral drugs! It won't help for cancer (which isn't a parasite disease but actually a mutation) but it could be used to cure the common cold... and ear infections that aren't caused by bacteria. (Antibiotics taking care of the ones that are)

haha, crabs... that reminds me of the ATHF episode where Frylock makes that shrink/grow-ray thing...

I can cure HIV as well with a flick of my magical fingers! I remember a long time ago in elementary school that I had like a big red mark on my head from laying in the grass. Everybody said that I had HIV. I told them what HIV was, they didn't listen, so I ran away and hid in the woods.

Yeah. I am a pro-Hobo. I sneak around and survive from eating out of people's garbage cans and squirrels that I catch.
