Ultima 8 for XP

Post by aurore »

Hi

I am trying to get Ultima 8 to work on Windows XP, I went on the Pentagram website (as prompted by Exult, which I used for Ultima 7).
I find the website very confusing, which components am I supposed to dowload to get the game to work?
If anyone could help I would really appreciate it!

The one that is an .exe file. That's it. It's called the Windows Binary or Executable or something.

But it doesn't even run the game properly yet, even though its very promising. It's just not finished.

Dosbox.org emulator is the best solution so far, but you need a really fast computer to run Ultima 8 under Dosbox.

not true.

there is a little secret to this Ultima SLoooowneess.
If u turn on the game - in the menu and then Alt Tab out of the game..... then wait an hour -then alt+tab back to the game game will be extra fast - its good for this game - cause of long distance walking and its much better.

Basically:
The longer u alt tab out of Ultima 8 - the longer u will have the fast mode :)

type ultima 7 in a search engine and you should fian a site called Iolos Lute or somehting like that. In that site somewhere is a link to a windows patch for ultima 8. It works perfectly under W98/95 but the Me version didn't try when I tried it years ago(I since returned to Win98). This I haven't visited in a while so I don't know how recent the current version is, or how XP compatbile it is. Still, I'd say it's the best bet you have.
