Sinister (?) - game with three heroes fighting against soldiers

Hello, I am looking for a game I used to play as a child at the latest in 2002, probably several years earlier, too, but not many. It was played on some version of Windows. With my siblings, we used to call it Sinister, but now I cannot find it under this name, so I'm not sure if it is its real name.
It was something like third-person RPG. The player controlled three heroes with a view from above. They were soldiers with their own names. It was on a map during night. They had to fight against groups of enemy soldiers placed all over the map. They could have different weapons. If one objective was reached, another place on the map was marked, where they should go. The three heroes could separate. They had a life bar. If all of them died, you lost. The game had several difficulty levels. Last thing: I remember hearing birds twittering during the night :-)
Do some of you know this game? How could I find it?
