PC game puzzles and shapeshifting pet

Hello there!
I've found this game before but have since forgotten it and want to get it. I want to say it was around 1990's.
The game was a game with puzzles you needed to solve and you're this guy who was abducted as a child that has this "dog" thing that can shift into a large variety of objects. It turns out the antagonist is actually his mother all along. One level has you in a tv show of some kind, and the kinds of puzzles varied from making food to having the pet mimic items so you could get from place to place.
When I say mimic items I mean he can become a flying carpet too. I can't remember the company, but other games I played around that time included ones made by Sierra, if that helps.
