Maniac Mansion

I had an old NES called Maniac Mansion and played it to death and since it came out in that same era as the Shareware games came out I wondered if there was a PC port of it!.

i used to have it (dont remember where it was tho) but it is a DOS game.
SECRETS IN DA NES GAME
this is kinda hard to explain cause i havent played it in a while but
i think if u go up the stairs you enter a room with stripey wallpaper. If you select the bottom of one of the stripes you will get a secret number pad. Just push random numbers and you will start to hear beeps. Eventually you will get an alternate ending (the whole house blowing up!)
It is possible to get the guys outta da dungeon (keep one guy outside)
and keep searchin for a hidden brick. Send the guy outside over to the grate in the wall (i think) and you can rescue the guys.
that has to be the best game ever! What other game do u get to put a hamster in a microwave!?!? LOL

I know where to get the full game for PC but I don't know if it is abandonware...
anyway, you can play Maniac Mansion through Day Of The Tentacle:
in the stamps collector's computer.

Does anyone know if the full Maniac Mansion is freeware?

Maniac Mansion Deluxe is a fanremake freeware of the original Maniac Mansion. It is supposed to be as good as the original. You can find many sites to download this remake by typing "Maniac Mansion Deluxe" in Google. The original Maniac Mansion (PC version) is still protected so you can 3 choices i.e. get the remake,
get the NES, C64 or Apple II ROM from emulation sites or find some way of getting the original.

Maniac Mansion is not freeware & neither is the NES rom. For this game to be legal to download, Lucasarts has to give permission for the game to be distrubuted on the NET & Lucasarts has not done this to any of their older games.
