Empire Builder Pronto had a new major release, version 1.7.

This is a licensed computer version of the Empire Builder crayon rails boardgames from Mayfair Games, like Empire Builder, EuroRails, NipponRails, LunarRails, and Iron Dragon.

Many but not all the official games are supported - Iron Dragon had some extra rule variants and isn't in the mix yet, but Mars and Lunar are all available as well as (most of?) the real geography maps.

EBP has solo, AI, and multiplayer options. It's a commercial product with a trial; base game available for entry price and licensed maps available individually or in map packs. The graphics aren't the most polished (though improved every release), and it is a windows desktop app rather than a DirectX/OpenGL full screen app. It is also obviously a labor of love and has lots of cool features.

EBPEdit add-on tool lets you create custom new maps, too! I think there's a community of map makers and players for those interested.

EBP related texts wrote:Today we have announced the release of a significant new version of EB Pronto (EBP). Version 1.7 has something new for everyone, with locomotive art, additional event effects, more display control, smarter AI bots, and new ways to play.

Each locomotive type (Freight, Fast Freight, etc.) is depicted with custom art so at a glance you can tell which engines you and your opponents have. Engine upgrades roll (animate) into place. When you get a new contract, the old is wiped from the display and the new wiped in so it's easier to tell which is your newest contract.
