Well i updated to v8.
I also opted for the toolbar thingy.
It seems to have slowed things down a little, but nothing major.
All in all, seems fine.

That's something I never allow, too much of such things around ( google .. .MSN ... whatever .... whatnots....).

Some thoughts:
You'd better disable the automatic daily scan and run it manually once a week/2weeks or so.... depending your surf habits . (look in the sheduled tasks ...).
Tools -> advanced settings -> shedules -> sheduled scan -> uncheck "enable this task".

Run it when you don't use your PC, you can enable the 'shut down computer upon scan completion' option.
Computer scanner -> change scan settings -> additional scan settings -> bla bla
If you have a lot of files it can take lots of time to finish, and the scan running on the background is a real slowdowner when you use your PC.....

I don't mind it scanning daily.
It really doesn't slow anything down dramatically.
And yeah, i normally never get any toolbars.
I figured this one might be fun though.
Apparently it isn't.
Meh.
Thanks for the help though. :D

Hmm. New question.
How do i wipe everything clean, without needing to re-install windows?
I'd like to clear everything out...
But my windows cd is... *cough* missing *cough*...

Thanks. :)

I'd like to clear everything out...
1. Get a hammer. Or some other small wielding metal object. Anything will do.
2. Apply metal object to your computer via means of repetatively whacking it until you start to see sparks appearing.
3. Throw your computer in the trash.
4. Get your wallet.
5. Go down to your local computer store.
6. Buy a new computer.

You will find that everything will be completely wiped clean, and you won't need to re-install windows. :D

He does have a point there...

But I was thinking of something more along the lines of soap, water, delicate circuitry.

Waste of time... just mix a little aluminum powder with some rust... (1 part aluminum/2 parts rust). Mix it all around.

Take your computer outside, put it over the sidewalk, or several slabs of heavy material.

Pour the mix into a can or container of some sort, and put that near the top of your computer, and put a wick in it... best bet would probably be magnesium. Light it and run...

Why on top?

Why not inside?

Thought about that, but putting it on top will allow it to melt the system all the way through... not sure where you could put it inside to guarantee maximum meltage... it would also be easier to light if it was on top.

For the programs: Windows uninstaller. I guess you know how to do that.

For the garbage and junk run once in a while:

Begin with Easycleaner:
http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm
And also CCleaner:
http://www.ccleaner.com/
Be sure to use the 'registery' cleaner in Easycleaner, lot's of garbage in there.
And once a month a defrag:
http://www.download.com/Auslogics-Disk- ... 67503.html
That can take some time if you have big HD's....... but that one also has a 'autoshutdown' PC when done.

All are pretty self-explaining and together will remove 80-95% of the junk.
There are more programs like those, but not all are n00b safe, meaning that you easily can harm your system files with those, so I won't lead you to them.
One thing to be carefull with; Easycleaner has a 'startup' cleaner item, can really speed up your Windows by removing all that's not needed to run on startup, but it can also remove needed sys files, so: know what you're doing there.
For the rest: clean up baby!

First uninstall what you don't need anymore.
Then run Easycleaner.
Then run CCleaner.
And as last a defrag to keep stuff tidy.
Done.

Okay.
Now i have more questions.

My copy of windows xp is slightly illegal.
I'm not going to ask for any suggestions to "fix" my copy...
But i want to know some things...
Here's what is happening...

I used one of those fake activation code things when i first put xp on this computer.
It seemed rather happy with that.
It's been a fair while since.
But recently it's been saying, "Activation is required for your windows product in X days."
When i've clicked, "Yeah, okay cool, let's activate" it has come up, "Yeah, i lied. I'm already activated."

So, now i'm down to 1 day... and i'm wondering if anyone could tell me what will happen when it gets to 0?

And also, if the OS goes bye bye, i can still get my files and what-not off my hard drive by usb-ing it to another pc, right?

Thanks.

p.s. Can someone change the title of this thread to "GAMER's noob questions about everything that crosses her mind" ??

When you reach day 0 your compy will self destruct.
But you always can do a BIOS upgrade cross platform wise, Gameboy Kid and Abyss will be able to help you with that.

Naaa , just kidding of course, it simply will be completely restricted in use, meaning that it will boot and stare at you as a completely useless piece of junk, you will need a valid activation key to get things rollin again.
No data loss whatsoever, everything will still be there.

Bottom line: time to use your charmes and find a <strike>sucker</strike> bloke who can provide you a valid key.

Or hunt yourself on teh darkside of the net and find one, no need to say that you'd better be carefull, little girls are prey there.
