[Edit]
Oh yeah, unplug your external drive whilst installing your OS.

Bets are open ......
Will she accomplish her quest?
Won't she be able to?

Hmmmmm, I have my doubts.

My bet: she won't.

HARSH! :P

I'm quite sure that if i go down the "put my hard drive in someone else's pc" path that i can do it. The other ways, i admit, i would completely mess up.

I was just looking for an easier way that didn't require me to use a mate's pc.

Ye of so little faith!! I will show you.

B) GAMER

my bet: i will succeed.

BTW, should you ever get your PC back on track:
GAMER wrote:Hmm.
I have another query.
Didn't think i needed to make a new thread though...
Is there a way to catalogue the names of files you have?
For example...
I have no desire to back up ALL of my music collection.
I have the most important stuff already on an external device...
But i would be upset if i lost everything without having a list of what i had, incase i forgot some of it...
Yes.
So, i was wondering if there was a way to record the names of files...perhaps all in one small file?
(And obviously i am lazy and i don't want to go through and write everything down...so yes.)
Thanks.

B) GAMER
I've lately began to use this one:
http://www.insidecat.biz/disk_catalogue ... loguer.htm
The free version can handle up to 100 disks/maps/drives/whatever catalogs.
Completely adaptable@ your wishes, play around with it, you'll see (or screw up), you always can reset to 'default'.
Printable (I use the 'windows print format without multimedia' or whatever it's called in English, you'll find out I think).
I used it to catalog some double sided DVDs with stuff that had over 10,000 files on them, works fine.

Well...
I'm almost there.
I took my hard drive to my friend's place.
Got my mum's stuff off it...
Took it back home...
Booted the windows vista cd thingy...
Formatted the drive...
Clicked install...
It's been "installing" for like 2 hours though?
Myeah.

Nice work t'll now.
:)

BTW, "installing" for like 2 hours? ZOMFG ...... what are your hardware specs?
I may hope you have more then 1Gb RAM ...... and a recent proc (fast single core or dual core) , otherwise you gonna have a crawling PC my dear.

Or is it upgrading to sp1? That can take some time, big download and makes a complete 'sysbackup' so you can eventually rollback.
But the install itself (without the upgrades) should not take more then some 30 minutes on a good PC.

New question.

Why aren't my speakers working?

They worked b.v. (before vista), but now alas, do not.
The output is outputting.
They ARE plugged in.
Yes.

Before screwing up your whole system give headphones a try, maybe you forgot something ....... how is the volume setting? Not muted? Directed towards the correct output socket?
BTW, what sounddevice you have? Correctly installed?

Hint Hint VolumeControlPanel.

Already tried headphones...
And tried the front jack on the computer...
Volume is up.
Speakers are ON.
It's a "High definition audio device" (SPDIF)
Other than that i have no idea.
It says it's installed, and it also says the drivers are up to date.
It's also "enabled".
And the test shows that the output is outputting.

Not enough.
Take a look in config panel system devices or sound.
