Hardware upgrade :)

Post by dosraider »

My trusted ol' home PC became a bit ..... low end lately, hardly could run Far Cry, Doom 3, STALKER, XPand/XPandXtreme in 1024x768,medium settings ... etcetera.
Certainly now that I finally upgraded my monitor to a wide screen LCD *sigh*

My ol'home PC config:
AMD athlon64 3500+
1 GB RAM
GeForce 5700 AGP 128 MB
XP/Vista/Ubu
Thought about buying a new PC but ..... Those mentioned games are about the most demanding I run, and I don't see anything that's really appealing to me to be released in the near future.
For all the rest I do on a PC it is more then fast enough for home use.

Upgraded to:
AMD athlon64 3500+ (still the same ol'CPU -with a new cooling fan- ....)
2GB RAM
GeForce 6200 AGP 8x 512 MB
XP/Vista (Need to reinstall Ubu apparently *sigh*)

The difference?
Now I run Far Cry, Doom3, STALKER, XPand/XPandXtreme in a whooping 1360x768 wide screen, all settings maxed out.
Rock'n'roll baby !!! :karate:

2 GB RAM is approx 70€ nowadays. (2x1GB Kingston KVR400X64)
And the GeForce 6200 AGP 512MB is found in the bin for 45€, seems none wants them things in those modern days. (Except someone as me , of course).
Swell enough for me, maybe I'll buy a new PC next year or in two years.... if I need one.

Oh yeah, Doom3 is of course mostly ran with the 'classic Doom' mod.

Nice. And should be good 'nuff for Diablo3 when it comes out ... and when that happens, really, what other game do you need? :D
