Death

Post by Dogbreath »

To start off the posting I am posting a story that I wrote a few months back:

On the last day of his life, Michael Harold Williams was on an emergency room bed. Curved, winding tubes strung from his body to the various machines planted around the room. Lights glared down upon him from above, their cold, cruel light giving him no mercy, no escape from his horrid reality. The heartless machines clicked away, caring not as to whether he lived or died, only content with doing their duty. His only comfort, the only sign on humanity that he could see it this drear place was the doctors rushing about him, their eyes revealing their concern.

There in the midst of this all was this young man of only 15 years. His body moved not, frozen in its coma, desperately trying to live, to hold on to it’s fruitless existence that it seemed to love. Though his body moved not, his mind raced, contemplating the events of the past hour. Just a short while ago he had been a happy, somewhat ignorant teenager.
Riding his bike to school on a sunny September morning. He remembered with some blurriness the bus, the screeching or the tires, the sirens, the scared voice of the driver and the barking ones of the emergency workers. The grave faces of his parents at the hospital.
The thoughts tormented him, as they passed through his mind over and over, never giving him relief. “Why?” He screamed, or at least wanted too as his lips refused to move. He screamed it again, agony pulsed through his body, and the pain never seemed to end. “I’m only 15! I have a life to live! Why did it have to be me?” Many a time he questioned his grim fate but finally, in his final few seconds he came to peace with his misfortune. It was his time to go, his time to let go of his doomed existence. And then the moment came, and this tormented boy closed his eyes for the last time and for the first time since he began his futile existence he was truly at peace.

What happened to Mike? No one knows. Maybe he ceased to exist. Or perhaps he went to some beautiful paradise to remain at rest for all of eternity. He could even have been reborn anew. But one thing we do know is that death is not evil, it is but the counterpart of life. It’s a necessity, something that we cannot escape. We should not spend our lives in fear of something that is unavoidable, but instead should cherish all of our short life granted to us, as this moment will never come again.

Excellent story! But I would suggest moving it as it doesn't really have anything to do with mine.

Nice Valentine's Day topic. The first thing that comes to mind on St. Valentine's day is death. Of course, I don't have a girlfriend, so that affects thing.

Without permission, but if DB says it's okay, then be our guest if you use his.

When DB says "thou shalt not use for homework" he means plagiarism, like using the exact same thing for a short story and calling it your own. I think it would be alright to use it as a source for a report....

Yeah, if you list me as a source (with a link to the full thing at the bottem of the paper), that would okay. Just don't turn it in as your own work.

Part of the reason for this is because I *have* turned this piece in for homework and got an A for it. Now, if your teacher happened to like this as well, and, say, submitted it to one of those message-boards for teachers and my teacher saw it... well then, that would cause a lot more problems then it would solve, wouldn't it?

yep. :D i would just write it in my journal and say that "Doggy wrote this". It's not really a report or anything...i just have to write anything i read down and write my thoughts on it.

This is a really neat writing DB. It says some good things about death and life. I really like it!
"You believe me," I said gratefully.
"Of course I do," and he held out his hand. "I believe everything out of the common. The only thing to distrust is the normal."
