"Re-enter the abyss" when you die, or something si

I remember playing this game when I was younger, or watching older cousins play it. The graphics, if I recall correctly, were Doom-ish, and definitely a 1st person type deal. There was magic and arrows and such (I believe), and you explored a dungeon or other underground lair.

One of the things I remember most of all is that when you died, I'm almost positive that the game asks you, "Are you sure you would like the re-enter the Abyss?" I can remember joking with the people that I was playing with that "REENTER" wasn't a word.

The last time I can remember playing it was around 1998, definitely no later. I'm pretty sure it was a bit older than that, however. If it's any help whatsoever, I'm positive that I played The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening the same day as the last time I played this "Re-enter the Abyss" game. Therefore, it can't be any older than 1993.

It's possible that it was Heretic, but I'm not so sure. It all seemed to take place underground, and I don't recall the graphics being as crisp and good as the screenshots of Heretic I've seen. But thanks for the suggestion.

The only way I'd know for sure was if anyone remembered the "Re-enter" or "Reenter" the Abyss message. But any help is appreciated.

Catacomb Abyss?

Just kinda guessing here, but I figure, it has abyss in the title... and the game asks if you want to REENTER the "abyss"
