Yes, we'll be using a paid host, free hosts are shit. Really for the most part a general idea of which company we want to use has been worked out, I'm just making sure there's nothing out there that might be a little better.

Depends what you want to use it for. Do you want a server, or just shared hosting? A server will run you at least $100US/month for a decent one, while shared hosting account is more like $5-$20 per month. Always run a search on potential hosts on WebHostingTalk, you'll probably discover quite quickly whether the host is reliable or not:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/
Another good site is WebHostingUnleashed, which lets you search people's reviews of web hosts:
http://www.webhostingunleashed.com/
I would personally not sign up for any host unless I had read positive reviews of them on at least one of those two sources ...

FWIW I use ServerMatrix as my host, and have been quite happy with them:
http://www.servermatrix.com
Their cheapest server is $109US/mth.

I used to use Tera-Byte ( www.tera-byte.com ) and was always pleased with their service ... they offer both shared hosting (costs anywhere from $25/year to $299/year) or what they call a "virtual server" which is sorta inbetween a shared account and a "real" server ($55/mth):
http://web.tera-byte.com/index.cfm?fuse ... es.virtual

Of course, since you're in AUS you may wanna go for an AUS host; unfortunately I'm not personally familiar with any AUS hosts. Anywho, hope this helps
