DOS Games Win a Free Book Contest 2006!! Oh yes, it's time!!

Post by emmzee »

I was thinking today that we haven't had a contest in awhile. So begins the "DOS Games Win a Free Book Contest 2006" thing! Yea! Erm, here's how this works, for those of you who are n00bs :D

1) Post a link in this thread to a book that you want on Amazon.com.
2) After a week or so, after giving everyone a chance to post, I'll randomly pick TWO names (using a random # generator) and they'll each get whatever book they posted ... free!
3) There are no catches! Um except these ones ......

Catches:
- Maximum price of $25US for ONE item only (you can't, for example, get five $5 books, since that would increase my shipping costs)
- One entry/book per person
- If multiple books come in a single package (ie one item) that's fine.
- You must be a registered member of this message board and have at least 50 non-garbage posts (as of today, March 6th)
- Only books are eligible prizes ... no video games, electronics, etc
- The book should be in stock (ie it should say "Availability: Usually ships within 24 hours")
- Admin & mods may enter
- Previous winners cannot enter (that means Da_Goat and Wally, if I remember correctly)
- No books with content that could be deemed obscene/offensive

Before you ask:
- This is coming out of my own pocket ... well, money I've made from dosgames.com ;)
- You don't have to "do" anything to get your prize other than post an Amazon link ... the two winners will have to (privately) give me their full real name, postal address and phone number (so that Amazon can ship the book to you!) after they win. That info will be of course be kept confidential.
- If you change your mind and want a different book, just edit your original post, don't post again with another link.

So pick something you want and maybe you'll win :) The winner will be decided by assigning a number to each person who posts and running a random number generator. Note that unlike the other contests this time we'll have TWO winners, so your chances are doubled this time! Good luck all B) Feel free to post q'ns in this thread if you have any ... also, if you know ppl who used to frequenty post here but haven't been around for awhile, tell 'em to come back to this thread and post :D

OH!

I want, for sure, this, and THIS ONLY!

The URL is in that words there.

Though it says it ships in 1-2 business days..... That alright?

[also, even if the winner isn't picked, do we still PM our contact info?]

Julie: The rules say one link ... one ... 1 ... un ... uno ... одно ... :blah:  (its okay I'll just pick one if you win)

Swiftman: No, only the two winners need to send me their info after they win. (If for some reason one of the winners doesn't want their prize, or doesn't respond within a reasonable time, then I'll pick another person, etc.)

Gamer_V I don't think emmzee is too worried about shipping to Europe, he should me more worried if someone from the down under verse wins.

I'll post a number titles just in case it becomes out-of-stock. Priority is in ascending order i.e. if don't have number 1 then it's number 2, if still don't have then number 3 etc. At the moment, all meets the mentioned criteria but one never knows what might happen with passing time as stock is running low. With more options, definately one book will continue to meet the criteria. :D The other reason for posting so many options is to interest others into considering reading these books. ;)

1) The Best Short Stories of O. Henry

2) The O. Henry Prize Stories 2005 (Prize Stories (O Henry Awards)) (Paperback)

3) Great Lateral Thinking Puzzles (Paperback)

4) Perplexing Lateral Thinking Puzzles (Paperback)

5) Classic Lateral Thinking Challenges (Hardcover)

6) Colorful Lateral Thinking Puzzles (Paperback)

7) Outstanding Lateral Thinking Puzzles (Paperback)

8) Super Lateral Thinking Puzzles (Paperback)

[Just for discussion: The reason for choosing O Henry books was that during my student days, someone highly recommended this author's books and after borrrowing from the library one of them, I loved it. His books are in well written English, interesting, easy to read (because they are short stories) but best of all is that each story has a surprise ending. This is good if you're looking for ideas to write a fictional English composition. If not, it is still enjoyable to read for fun.

The reason for choosing books in the Lateral Thinking Puzzles series is that I already 3 books in this series by that particular author and find them very interesting. Some solution to the puzzles are fictional cases while others were actually based on real incidents that happened. Many people would have come across these kind of puzzles but may not have know they are called Lateral Thinking Puzzles. It is those puzzles where you are closed ended questions to get answers with yes/no in order to get clues to solve the puzzle.]

emmzee, thanks for having a contest. It's interesting whether or not one wins - the fun of a lottery ticket.

Shipping is fine no matter where you are. (Well, as long as Amazon ships there.) For you Canadians I'll order thru Amazon.ca if possible instead to save on the charges :D

I shipped the prize in the last contest to Wally in AUS so ... should be okay :P

BTW ... if you happen to be talking with any former members or current members who haven't posted yet (moo? check-mate? kazer0? JMS? ...) tell 'em to get in here :)

That’s because CM has various commitments like school, her music, the production she’s in etc. I usually still talk to her a bit through out the week, mainly on the weekend, which just happens to be coming up. I’ll mention it to her though I’m sure she’ll probably swing by of her own accord as well.
