What are the best 2 player games?

Post by cody »

My wife and I love playing Scorch. Are there any other really good 2 player games out there?

Also, maybe I'm crazy, but I remember a different version of "worms" than the one on dosgamesarchive.com

http://dosgamesarchive.com/download/game/142

The version that I remember has worms that shoot string (that allow the worms to swing) and battle simultaneously. It was not as fancy as the one that is now on dosgamesarchive... but it was so cool. Am I crazy, or did it really exist?

Scorched Earth: the mother of all games :D

You are thinking of Liero (look at your other post).

as for other good 2-player games, I really like Worms world party. The worms series is like the 'half way point' between scorch and liero, but more professional looking than both of them.

A couple of the first person shooters can be fun to play over LAN, at school we used to play massive games of Doom95, but for 2 people it mgiht not be so fun.

Sorry, can't think of too many split-screen simultaneous / turn-based games now. Maybe someone else can come up with some more.

DOOM, Duke3D, Quake and the likes for two people can be fun, but only if the deathmatch level is small enough.

Some other games that are fun to play with a friend (and you don't even need two computers) are fighting games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Wrestlemania as well as the classic strategy/RPG series - Heroes of Might and Magic.

Wacky Wheels

Also, I like Tank Wars better than Scorched Earth.

Scorched Earth is a must. We're currently having unofficial tournaments at school with this game. So many options that give the game depth, its great!
The demon soars through dark skies
Fear and death trail the shadow beneath
Until men united wield hallowed saber
In final reckoning, the beast is slain.

For nice 2 player games,

If you like pacman, then CD-Man using the doubles team mode is good.

If you like puzzles, Lemmings for Sega Genesis / Super Nintendo using the 2 player game is good.

If you like arcade, Ugh! using team mode is good.

If you like fighting games at all then you have to try Sango Fighter, it's sort of like Mortal Kombat only better.

Hey, the Simpsons Arcade game is great.

Though....

One Must Fall.

BEST. FIGHTING GAME. EVER.

Since you, well, have mechs [awesome] and it's a DOS game [even more awesome]

Though I have a good lsit of 2 player games here:

-Mari Kart [SNES]
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4: Turtles in Time [SNES]
-Sonic 2&3 Minigames [Genesis]
-Final Fantasy 9 [PSX, set the controllers up in the menu to have 2 players control certain characters, great fun later on]
-Katamari Damacy [PS2: a little wierd, heck a lot wierd, but SOOO much fun.]
-Unreal Tournament [PC, awesome fun FPS]
-Starcraft [PC: Real time strategy at it's...... second best [can't beat Dune 2 *on the watch for an angry Sinister*]
-Liero, yes, is awesome
-CDogs [DOS: here at DOSgames.com awesome fun Gauntlet-esque gameplay, only with, well, HUGE guns]
-Gauntlet [NES, awesome 2 player fun, can get annoying at times though since it's uberly long and beating the game is nigh impossible.]
-more to come as I think of them.....

This brings back memories. In the old days when the game just came out for PC, my sister and I used to play it together in the 2 player mode. However, we could still never finish the game, could only reach the dream world - can't remember is it level 7. Back in those days, I like that game but now not anymore. ONe thing that I don't like is that when you play in 2 player mode is that you can to compete with your partner to pick up weapons as there is not enough to go around. Some people have said that the arcade machine version is better graphics than the PC version. Ther arcade machine version has 4 player option unlike the PC version.
