i drank a couple of them... the thing is if you drink one then nothing else happens than you see the screen upside down, which is annoying and i think -can't say for sure because i haven't tried it thoroughly- that you still use the same way the arrows for up and down... i'll give it a shot, it's my last chance you see, otherwise i'll have to leave the game be.

For original POP, previously I finished it on my own. Now I just looked at the walkthrough and it states that the inverted-portion as a joke. This means it not needed to drink. POP4D has no walkthrough so no ready solution. 
Before you give up, we'll try to solve your technical problem so that hopefully you can cheat.
If you were able to use the cheat when playing the original POP, then good, here's what you have to do. Make a copy of the entire set of files from your POP game, delete the file called "levels.dat". Then copy kirill.dat from POP4D and place together with the set of files. After that rename, "kirill.dat" to "levels.dat". Start the game in the cheat mode, the same way you would have if you were playing the original POP. Then there you have it, using the cheat mode but playing POP4D.
The person who made POP4D not only altered the levels from the original POP, he also altered the exe file.
If you can cheat, skip level 3 first and continue playing the rest of the levels. Come back to level 3 when you finish the rest.
If this also does not work for you, then you have to temporary give up until someone comes to solve your techincal problem or provide you a solution. Hmm, the other way is for me to help you cheat a little by adding in things like extra planks so that you wouldn't have to jump or something like that. You can also do it yourself by downloading Roomshaker (POP / POP4D) level editor. All it edits is the levels.dat file or kirill.dat file. However, before editing keep a backup in case you want to play back the original.

Roomshaker. An excellent POP level editor. But for POP4D, I don't think so. It only lets me edit dungeon POP4D levels. If I try to open a palace level, it tells me the level file is corrupted. I'm using Roomshaker 1.66 on Win95. Also, the later dungeon levels (levels 7,8,9) it looks the same as the original.
As for the cheats, level skip only lets me go up to level 4, which is very confusing. The whole level design is repeated each screen making it very hard to find the exit.

actually i did find out about the inverted screen potion on my own

anyway... i have to tell you that i have not played the original pop just tried the pop4d for the first time...
so, since you do not give up on me, i must tell you that not only when i try to use the cheat do i get the black screen with terebilov's name on it, i cannot start the game at all from dos, as i get the same. I simply click on the exe file from the windows archive i have made and the game starts without problems but with no possibility to cheat either
as for the 3rd level... nothing so far, no way to get out of there without wings.
If i had the opportunity i would ask the guy who made the game, how the &^%$$#%^ does one get out of there without cheating! (Replace the word Gamename with the actual name of the name, be sure to add in the inverted commas also. When you type words in inverted commas in googles searches, it means searching for all the exact words inside the inverted commas. You would be able to find a few sites to get what you want)
You can try another suggestion first. Download this file, unzip it and put in your game folder. Double click it and see whether you can successfully run it without getting a black screen. A .bat file is to run a command line in windows. It's easy to create a bat file yourself if you want. Simply open up a notepad, type the dos command you want and save as .bat instead of .txt format. That is Prince of Persia 2, the sequel to the original Prince of Persia as it was mentioned there. That is a continuation story with different graphics. Prince of Persia 2 has a demo but Prince of Persia i.e. the first one did not have any demo. I also took a look at the link you gave in your earlier post and it is indeed the original pop, which by the way i found quite easily, on my first try. I do not know if this is relevant, but i cannot start the original pop from the dos prompt as well, i get a black screen and loading written on it and then nothing happens. Is this normal? how long should i wait before i give up? The game though plays fine whenever i click on the exe file from windows. But if i want to i cannot cheat, right?
I also deleted the 4dprince file from the pc and i will reinstall it to see if something different will happen, but i do not feel very optimistic.

Looks like it's the same problem you have with the original POP as with POP4D. Have you tried using the .bat file that I gave in the earlier link? That might work. For the original POP, the cheat mode would be prince megahit (for POP v1.0) or prince improved (for POP v1.3 & above) instead of 4d_prin kirill! However, you shouldn't be cheating in the original since it doesn't have those "impossible" stuff to do and it's more fun playing it by yourself. Now that you have the original POP, let's solve your saving problem for POP4D. The original game will not have a saving problem. Make a copy of the original POP game folder then copy the file called kirill.dat (from POP4D) and paste it in the original POP game folder. Delete levels.dat and rename kirill.dat into levels.dat. You can then run the game and it will be playing POP 4D levels. I don't know what version your original POP is but I suggest you use version 1.0 and not version 1.3 if you want to do this. Somehow v1.3 does not like the POP 4D levels and some errors might occur. To save game, press Ctrl G at level 3 or above. oh so very stuck, you say you get the "loading" screen. I get that too when playing POP1, but because the game is saved on floppy disk, it takes time for my computer to load to information and that is the cause. But when playing POP4D, the game goes dicrectly to the opening screen because the game is stored on the C drive. Is your copy of the game on floppy disk? That may be the problem, but for me loading time is a few seconds. Perphaps something is slowing it down for you??!!?? And I mean really slow!!!!
PS- Just so you know, I'm using Roomshaker to create my own POP, which I will call POP5D. It will be harder than POP1, but a bit easier than POP4D. I am currently working on level 3, but when I'm finished and if your interested I can send you it.

thanks for the offer gamemaster... i might take you up on it! it would be nice to have the developer in a position to answer whenever i or anyone else is stuck on a level that seems impossible to beat... maybe you should reconsider though . thanks, but so far it's pretty straightforward... i did finish the 7th level without getting the upgrade potion but that was due to the fact that i've been playing all day and wanted to see what the 8th level looks like... i think i should have run jumped back to the exit but prefered to do it some other time. I am now on the 8th level and i have 34 minutes left.
The great thing is that i can save the game without any problems at all
What's even better is that with all the exercise i have from pop4d i am a very skilled swordfighter but anyway the game is very easy compared to you know what. So if i do get stuck on any level on pop1 (and i hope i will not) i will definitely post here

Good to know that you enjoy playing POP1 just like many of us (including me). At least you get to enjoy the game instead of remaining stuck at a level. I know how frustrating it is being stuck because for other games I had every gotten stuck before.
After you finish POP1, you may like to consider going for something challenging like:
-replaying POP1 to beat someone's record of finishing POP1 in 17 minutes and 36 seconds (meaning 42:24 left) I won't post the link yet about how the person did it so that you solve POP1 yourself & won't be tempted to read.
-trying to play POP4D again
-create your own levels with POP1 graphics
-playing POP2 (that's the sequel, the sequel is good in terms of graphics and gameplay, although many find POP1 better. POP2 doesn't have tiles like POP1 where you can count such as 2 rectangles needs a standing jump & 3 rectangles needs a running jump)

ok, i'm stuck again.... at level 8.... of pop 1 (which is v1.0 by the way).
So, i spoke too soon... thought it was easy. Well this level is not. I have been able to reach to the ledge where you open the exit door but i don't see how i can be able to reach the metal door while it's still open in order to leave the place.
Jksm i'd be glad to play all the games you recommended if only i can finish ONE pop first...
Oh and i did try something else in order to cheat (yes i admit so unashamedly) only it didn't work. I changed the name of the exe file to prince megahit, but i only got the regular game. When i tried to change the bat file to "prince megahit.bat" i got a message of bad name or filename....
I wonder since i'm doing so badly with princes is there a game with frogs instead

Oh, that part, you're not stuck. You just need to have patience. Once you activate the switch to open the exit door, slowly move past the cutters, then come to the closed metal gate. That's not the way to cheat.
Leave the .exe name as prince. Right-click on .bat file and select edit. Then it appears like a notepad, type in it:prince megahit
and then save the file. The bat file name can be called anything. By the way, prince megahit only works for version 1.0. If you're using version 1.3 then the cheat should be prince improved. To know what version you are using, in the game press Ctrl V.

I finished it! By cheating though.... (patience not my strongest feature, and what little i have 4dprince has worn it off).
Here's how i cheated. I did what you jksm told me to do, that is i edited the bat file. But, that was not all. After i wrote prince megahit the game wouldn't start by clicking on the bat file as it did before. It played if i clicked on the exe file, but no cheats. Trying to find a way to cheat i noticed that that in the original bat file had after prince the following "%1 %2 %3 %4". So i wrote prince megahit and those numbers after it and it worked. If i remember correctly it worked after i restarted my pc because i was trying first to give the command on the dos prompt.

So i changed it adding the %1 etc, and it worked so far as to skip level 3 only now i only have 15 minutes and no other cheats.
