Nice

Looks good! Everything should go fine if you add 256 mb RAM, don't go with less then 512 MB.
Don't go higher as 800x600 in Doom 3 and maybe tweak Half Life 2 / World of Warcraft a bit so you can run em on 1024x768 while keeping the FPS > 30 to 40.
And don't turn on FSAA, it's a FPS killer on a 9600.

I don't care too much about graphics.. If I would I wouldn't play dos games... It''s nice to know I could play these games.

With the graphics card I have now, even Civ 3 doesn't want to run... Although it's probably a bit about the ram...

Well, for me gameplay comes first, but graphics pretty important too, just like sound / music. For me DOS gaming is nostalgic too :-)

The memory is defenitly a problem 256 is low (with IM, Virus scanners and that kind of stuff in the background)

You have several 16 mb videocards for a computer like that P133, a Nvidia TNT / TNT2, 3DFx VooDoo banshee, Voodoo 3, S3 Savage 16 mb, Matrox Millenium / Mystique, Ati Rage64, ATI Rage FX / Express / All-in-wonder, Rage64 etc. etc. all available as AGP and PCI. There are a lot of company's that build their cards on these chips. I think 3Dlabs, Number9 had cards too.

My DOS Beast

Post by 486DX2-50 »

My main PC for usage is a custom built Celeron D 2.53GHz overclocked to 3.8GHz with 1GB of DDR 200MHz RAM. But anyway, I think retro systems are more interesting!

My beast;

Custom Built
Full Tower AT Case
Pentium 166 MMX
Socket 7 Mobo with PS/2 (1), AT (1), PCI (3), ISA (5)
32MB 72 Pin SIMM RAM
Nvidia RIVA 128 8MB PCI
SoundBlaster AWE 64 Gold ISA with External Roland MT-32 in the Gameport
1.6GB IDE Western Digital Caviar
52x IDE CD-ROM
3 1/2 Floppy Disk Drive
5 1/4 Floppy Disk Drive
MS-DOS 6.22
Windows for Workgroups 3.11

Mo'slo is sometimes required but overall this system is very compatible, especially the sound, I wouldn't mind a Gravis UltraSound but I've had difficulty locating them. I've never had a compatiblity problem with this PC other than Soundblaster Pro and CPU speed, but I don't get runtime errors on the 200 MMX (I did on my Pentium II 233, which I replaced with this Pentium 200 MMX).

So I have a bad bump going on. Meh well, I have a valid addition.

I have 2 computers. One is win XP, upstairs, and in the dining room. The other is win 98 SE and in my room, in the basement, beside the cold storage room, which is filled with all sots of soda's.

Win XP computer
Nickname: Filbert
Processor: Intel Celeron 1.2 ghz
RAM: 256 mb
Video Card: Uh.... nonexistant? Doesn't have any 3D support whatsoever, crappy for gaming.
Hard drive: 60 GB over 2 of them
Drives: 1 DVD player 64x, one CD burner 48x, one 3.5 floppy, 4 usb pots, 2 front 2 back

Win 98 SE computer,/b]
Nickname: Hewitt [yes, I like to name my things]
Processor: Pentium III 1200 mhz
RAM: 384 mb
Video Card: 8 mb 3D card. [in other words, nonexistant. XD]
Hard Drive: one 40 gb
Drives: One broken cd drive [won't even open] 44x burner, 3.5 floppy, 2 usb back
Picture:
Image
And, for the haibut, the equipment hooked up to Hewitt, with all my confusing names for everything that I own.
Image
[Don't question the plushies, I am a man, but Laguna I have tremendous sentimental value with and Rio has a speccially made belly that cleans high-static screens, like moniters. {and Caer is my digicam, case ya can't see that properly}]

lol, umm no.

Anyway if all goes to plan I’ll be getting a new PC next year with.

Duel boot Win XP Pro & Win 98SE
Duel P4
Duel graphics card (Not sure what, I’m going to see what Oblivion runs best on first XD)
200GB HDD
2GB RAM (More if I have the money)
Duel disc drives one a DVD burner
Floppy drive as well
A few USB ports, Bluetooth and things like that.
I’ll put a kick arse sound card in there to.

Well that’s what I hope to have anyway, I might have to tone it down a bit to save on money.

THAT would be a dream rig, especcially if it's custom built.

Too bad it'll be outdated by next summer anyways. heh. Gotta love computer technology.

Well I guess you could call it outdated. But the idea behind it is to make it good enough so that it will be able to run all new software for a few years without any dramas or need for major upgrades. It’ll be a real hit in the pocket straight up, but the fact it probably wont require that many upgrades in the future should save me money in the long run.

If I can I’m going to just buy the parts and get my uncle to build it for me, he’s a computer wiz and it’ll save me a shit load of money if I can do it that way.

Ah, I see what you're gettin at. Heh. Power now for money saving later.

That does seem the best method, having your uncle do it. I would do the same if I were in that case, only replace "Uncle" with "Phex".

Lol you seriously love that guy don't you. Meh my uncle is the person I'd go to, he has his own IT company (I think it's his, either that pr he's a major part of the company) so I'm pretty sure he'd know what he was doing. Trouble is I’d want him to do it for free, so he’d only be able to do it in his spare time, which could take awhile.
