Just curious...
Just curious...
Just curious to see if anybody other than me knows when the first version of pong was made. When the poll finishes i'll tell you the right answer.
I thought it was 1972, so I checked two of the games related books I have here, Arcade Fever, and High Score, and both state the first commercial version was released in 1972. Of course, there were probably other similar versions floating around before that, so I'm guessing 1971 would be the answer. (Note that a game that looks/plays like Pong but is not called Pong is not Pong
)
Also, anyone who chooses 2005 must be on crack.

Drum roll please.
*drum roll*
The answer is.....
...The first pong game was created in 1958! It was indeed called pong and it looked pretty cheesy. A researcher at Brookhaven National Library made it to sow off the library's visitors. Thus, the video game was born!

Winner of the 2,000th member award!
WRONG...
This is not PONG - its was a game called "Tennis For Two" but it was not pong
In 1958, William Higinbotham, an engineer at Brookhaven National Laboratory, a US nuclear research facility, fashioned a crude tennis-type game on an oscilloscope.
true fact: 1972
Nolan Bushnell test-markets his protovideo game, Pong, at Andy Capp's Tavern in Sunnyvale, California. The arcade video game as we know it is born. The sonar-blip sound that's generated as a digital ball is batted back and forth is the first true video game sound effect. It proves to be oddly compelling and kind of hypnotic.
