CRUSADER: NO REMORSE error

Post by hc1 »

I'm trying to get Crsader: No remorse to work on XP using dosbox.
I get the following error:

FILE/FASTFLEX.c, Line 38 error.

I've done a full install.

I'm also tried using D-Fend v2 and VDMSound

I've tried using dosbox and i get the same error message. and what did you do regarding sound? I'm using XP also and I sure as hell don't have a SoundBlaster card. I know the other info they ask for like IRQ and whatnot, but I don't have any of the soundcards they listed. maybe this doesn't matter; i don't know because i haven't been able to run the game yet.

I've gotten Crusader: No Regret to run, though I'm still in the process of figuring out how to get little things like sound and the ability to save my game.

I get the following error:

I'm getting the same error trying to install No Regret. I messed around with it for an hour and still get the same error.

Crusader and DOSBox

Post by pmwojdag »

I haven't read all the posts so you may have already tried these steps but I will show you how I managed to get Crusader No Remorse and No Regret to work on mine (Pentium 4 3.0GHz)

1. Install DOSBox.

2. Copy all Crusader game files (from the Crusader CD) into a temp folder on your C: drive

3. Run DOSBox

4. Type "mount c c:\" without the quotes

5. Type "mount d c:\temp" without the quotes (this simulates your CD ROM drive).

6. Step 5 presumes that all of the Crusader files are stored in the c:\temp folder.

7. Type "d:\" and you should be in the folder with the Crusader install files.

8. Install the game with all defaults (sound, location, etc) but you can change screen size, etc. But make sure that you do a full install. (Sound worked for me staying with the defaults and using the first Sound Blaster on the list)

9. Once installed, navigate to the Crusader directory on your c: drive (in Dosbox of course).

10. Before you run the game, use Ctrl-F12 and Ctrl-F11 to change the CPU cycles (this is the % of resources your CPU DOSBox is given). I have gotten the sound to be good 90% of the time and the game movement good at 12000 cycles on my Computer (read the DOSBox readme file for more specifics)). The Video/Sound were off synch but tolerable.

11. Run the game.

NOTE: No Remorse locked up on Mission 4 for me, so I had to use the patch (cru121p.exe). I don't remember what website I found it, but it is out there. You must patch No Remorse in DOSBox.

Alt-Enter = FULLSCREEN

I still am having trouble trying to get the opening video on No Remorse to work without stuttering badly... Any ideas?

Tell me if this helps... (Good luck)

I get to step seven, type in d:\install.exe, then get this message
'Unable to open file idata\fonts.dat, in file file\fastflex.c, line 38
Hmm

I encountered those types of errors
'Unable to open file ...'

It was because some files were set to "read only"
Try making all files are NOT "read only"

Hope that helps

copy the FLICS DIR with all the video files to your crusader folder. I think the crusader.cfg file is looking for them. I also copied the extra sound files to the SOUND DIR.

in dos box when u get this error its because its lookin for the cd, the main reason it can't find it is because the cd rom is not mounted in dos box
examble if cd rom drive is letter J then in dox box command prompt type
mount j j:\ and makesure your c: is mounted also. That should fic the prob, using xp sp1

fixed prob

One of the reasons we really don't like people to bump up TWO years old topics is because those are absolete.
