Hey guys, one additional rule (well, suggestion really) that I just added, sorry I meant to include this in my original post:

- The book should be in stock (ie it should say "Availability: Usually ships within 24 hours")

I think all of your current selection should be fine ;)

Yes, that's why I withdrew my selection, because I didn't see the part where it said it wasn't available.

NO :P

Besides, you only have to give me your address if you are the winner. Think about it how dumb that would be: I buy you a $25 book in exchange for 1 address which I will then go sell for ... what, $0.05? $0.10?!?

Please people, try to think rationally. ;) This is just supposed to be a fun contest, thats all. :)

Well since it seems like not many people are posting :( :Angry: :cry: I guess I'll end it on Wednesday. Sometime on Wed (Aug 11) I'll run the randomizer thing again and pick a winner.

Excellent choice Unknown_K :D I have the original edition of that book (called "The First Quarter") and it's great.

Another one that you (and others) may be interested in is called "High Score" ... it has tons of glossy color photos on every page, and tons of great info:

High Score
by Rusel DeMaria, Johnny L. Wilson

Just wanted to briefly comment that, although its fine to choose this book for this contest, that for anyone who has read, is reading, or planning to read Da Vinci Code: You should not take seriously the "history" presented in this book as fact. Of course, this is a fictional novel, but often times characters (like professors etc) discuss supposed "facts" which some readers may accept as genuine because of their presentation. I have not read this book (perhaps when it becomes available in softcover), and this is not really the proper thread to discuss these issues indepth. Just couldn't resist briefly commenting on that ;) If you're interested in more info on this subject there is a decent article available at <a href="http://www.trinitygnv.org/Publications/ ... f">TUMC</a> (PDF)
What's that book about anyway? I've only heard that it's really good.

<hr>

On another note... I was sick of the stupid horizontal-scroll-bar, so I went thru all the pages and fixed up the URL's so that they show the title of the book (but still point to the correct Amazon page).

Thanx for fixing that :)

The Davinci Code is a novel that is fictional, but presents itself as being meticulously researched and factual, whereas it quite often is inaccurate to the extreme. The plot concerns a mystery that the investigators must solve involving mysterious cyphers and a supposed secret society, including years of religious conspiricy and coverup.

The danger with this book is that because of the way it is written and presented, many people will be misled into believing many things about Christianity & the church that are not true. For example, in the book a professor of religion says quite matter-of-factly that the divinity of Jesus was decided upon by a vote at the Council of Nicea in the 4th century AD. The truth is, anyone who looks in a Bible will recognize that if the Bible is indeed accurate, Jesus can only be divine. (It would be at least coherent for a person to say that they believe that the Bible is not accurate ... but it would be incoherent to say that the Bible is accurate but Jesus is not divine.) The earliest books of the Bible were written in the 40's AD. What the 4th century council did was vote to put to rest any heretical (read: incorrect) teaching that was occuring at the time. The council did not create the concept, it merely verified it, once and for all.

I would go into more detail, and can certainly do so via PM if anyone is interested, but for the purposes of this thread I'll stop myself here and not turn this into a debate about theology and/or history ;) Bottom line IMHO is that this may well be an enjoyable book to read, but keep in mind that any facts presented within it are likely wild flights of fantasy! :angel:
