I didn't.
"Long before there was ultra-super-duper-128-bit-polygon-video-capture, hardware hype, wEiRd TyPe, pointless game ratings, E3, SCREAMING GUYS in ads, Virtual Reality, cliches like "in your face" and "it's the ultimate", 360 degree roto-scope-rhetoric from self righteous reviewers, CD-this, 3-D that, multi-million-dollar TV commercials tainted with TOILET humor...

...there was fun."

There were alot of acronyms used in irc chat like LMAO, AFK, TTYL, etc

Its just easier then having to type it all out, especially to people like me who type with 2 fingers.

It all depends on when they got online. if I wasnt an IRC user I probably would have had to figure out what it meant.

There are alot acronyms that man different things to different groups, and there are sayings older people use that young people have no idea what they mean like "gave it the whole 9 yards" know what that is referring to?

Good one-the best explaination I know of off-hand would be from when I layed cement 3 years ago. Liquid concrete is mesured by cubic yards in the U.S. "The whole 9 yards" (243 cubic feet) is the holding capacity for a cement mixer so I would assume it means "getting the job done all the way" or "putting in maximum effort." No?

FWIW, most people I know get confused on "HTH HAND" though YMMV.

The whole
nine yards Example: This TV comes with Stereo, Picture in Picture, Digital processing, ... , the whole nine yards. (Absolutely everything.)
Origin: When W.W.II fighter pilots in the Pacific were arming their airplanes on the ground, the .50 caliber machine gun ammo belts measured exactly 27 feet, before being loaded into the fuselage. If the pilots fired all their ammo at a target, it got "the whole 9 yards."

A. I've also heard the origin in is from football as well, I don't know.

B. Possibly the cement pouring example was clever and somewhat ironic way for cement mixers to steal a popular phrase-I don't know.

I use Quakenet, its the official Soldat IRC server. Mainly because they have #2wai.soldat, #Akai|soldat, #soldat.forums...

/me starts a /list and fires up a DVD

I'll edit this when I find more servers.
