what do i need to setup a lan game,i was thinking about playing c&c with my friend or red alert 1,that would be great!any tips?

If its just the 2 of you you could probably just play c&c over a modem. If he is bringing his complete PC over then you either have to:

Make sure you have a network card in each pc, 2 cat5 cables, and a swithc or hub (works for more then 2 pc's also)

or

Make sure you have a network card in each PC and make or buy a crossover cable to connect both machines together. this works just for 2 computers.

null modem is just the transmit and recieve switched on a phone cable so you can connect 2 modems together.
