HALFILFE 2 LEAKED SOURCE

gabe newell's pc got hacked... through a buffer overflow exploit in outlook. sombody installed keyloggers on their network and then downloaded the soucecode and now it's all over IRC and i'm downloading it whhhhheeeeeeeee!!!!

so long as you don't post that link, it's still legit.

1)How big is the file
2)Don't forget it'll all be text, and pretty much useless unless converted and such.

but so far, he's said nothing other than the fact that it has been leaked and that it is on mIRC... nowhere has he stated WHERE on IRC to get it, or provided links. It is still safe to keep unlocked.

Leave it unlocked. According to the topic title, this is about discussing the HL2 source leak, not sharing the source itself.

Yes, and it stinks that it was leaked. Now it will take even longer for HL2 to come out, and that's assuming that it will come out at all.

yep, the source code that was leaked was about 43 megs, not big enough for anything. it had all of the code though, just not the textures, .bsp's, models, meshes, etc.

but... (hehe i said a bad naughty word...)

on monday, the beta was leaked, and it contains the whole game in beta stage. it's 1.4 gigs. all over the warez channels.

you have to download even the resource pack to have a working version.

reource pack? well, actually the compiled surce came with the new versions of hammer and worldcraft, so peopl e mad textures themselves and imported them into hl2, and made maps like that. it all looked really crappy, but it worked.

^^^---- this is the exact reason why Valve ain't gonna lose sleep over this "theft". The leakage of the source has just made the audience hungrier. Because, believe me, everybody knows that a game is not just a bunch of text, the source engine. It is far more than that. It is the artistic side, the character, the ambience. Those are all things that cannot be denied, or neglected in a game, especially when it is a would-be blockbuster like this one.
I believe that the hacker himself is going to buy the game, or at least download a warez copy off somewhere. But the point is that nobody is satisfied with what they got right now. They will want more. And rightly so.

you really think so, dnirex? cause that would be great if valve didn'y delay hl2 because of this. i managed to get the hl2 source compiled, and it was pretty crappy, so i wouldn't think anythig would go majorly wrong because of this. but...

since the release of the code, an anonymous hacker has released the entire source code WITH resources, basically a "beta" of the game, even though it isn't. it's 1.4 gig's, and i've seen several screenshots of it, so i guess it's pretty real. i'll have downloaded it by the morning (8 hours). so this rules out what you said, unfortunately, and vivendi's statement that the game will be realesed next april is sending us all into spasms of fear(well me anyway ;-) ).

this just sucks, and the only reason why i'm downloading the "beta" is because i can't wait 6 months. but, downloading is like raping someone because you can't wait for your relationship with them to develop to the stage where they're ready to have sex. just think about it....
