90s kids pc game write your own detective movie [Write, Camera, Action!]
You were the director of a noir detective film, where you got to select options to design set, choose dialogue and basically write a detective film. It was a kids game, but the move you were directing was heavily inspired by Maltese falcon, even had a fem fatale as one of the lead characters in there.

OH MY GOD I made an account just to reply to this, you're the only other person I've seen know this game, ive been looking for a while. I could almost draw some of the scenes, I remember you could choose which word was emphasized in the lines of dialogue? And it was really interesting how much it changed the tone. It was almost like mad libs, you could take a serious route or a funny route and could make some pretty hilarious almost YouTube poop scenes by mixing the vibes weirdly.
It continued into the process of editing the movie, like you went to a different building on the film lot and it was like a little editing bay. I lost interest around these parts as a kid, but in hindsight it was kind of an impressively detailed game about what it's like to produce a movie. There was also I think like, marketing? A promotion phase? And then the big theater release with red carpet and audience reception? I think I only once, mostly accidentally, did all the steps I needed to do in order to get to the premiere ending. I mostly just liked playing with the filming/mad lib script reading stuff
I think this game might have been a demo that came with something else, because you could only do that one plot and it seemed like it hinted at more features and depth we couldn't access?
Alsoooo the logo of the film studio was a golden fox I'm pretty sure

Holy crap, I found it just by determinedly googling different variations of the description until I found a Reddit thread. I don't understand how this game slipped through all the cracks of categories on sites like mobygames, but hopefully there's enough keywords now in this thread that future searchers will find their way more quickly
