There was a game I played somewhere between 1995 and 1999. It look kind of like Descent. You controlled a small airship/plane. What I remember very clearly was that you could land in back of a mothership to end mission. The game was set above ground and mothership was hoovering in the sky somewhere. It was NOT set in space or underground.

Maybe Rowan Software's Air Power? But that would be a straight out flight sim.

Eschelon? The original was released in 1987, and there was apparently a remake/sequel in 2000.

Thank you MrFlibble but it's not that game. It was in 3D as this one, and the aircraft was more futuristic. View was from 3rd person.
