i remember somewhere in the beggining of the game, a goblin asked you to follow him but he leads you into a trap, afterwards you enter a big underground cave of some sort, wich is beneath a castle, at some point you have to battle a giant troll to enter the first castle, there we're different animals like snakes, bats, wich you could kill for things like snake skin or bat wings to make some kind of magic out of them, you could try a lot of combinations

i played it in 2006 or 2007, that game surely was after 2000, the gameplay was rpg like, at some point you could choose you'r stats or perks, something like that, it was an open world, or limited open world , a lot of maps and loading screens, the game was set in a medieval age of some kind but with fantasy features like magic, goblins, trolls, and such things and it was first person from what i can remember

Somehow I thought about Arx Fatalis, but not sure about the deceiving goblin part.
