I am not sure of the year it came out, but I played it in the late 80's, early 90's. I do not remember much of it, except that the cabinet was a bluish hue and it may or may not of vibrated or moved slightly. I remember it would rain at times and your virtual windshield wipers would wipe the rain away and there was always a dangling Sonic from the virtual mirror like that of fuzzy dice. And that is the only reason I said it was a SEGA racer, due to it's mascot. Otherwise, for all intensive purposes, I would have no idea who made it.
I do not think you were actually racing against an opponent(s), just more or less you were driving to get to the end I suppose before the time ran out. But it has been a while. I have been looking for the game for a while off and on, but nothing serious. If you know the name or possible name that is great. But I know there are other places to search, but figured maybe one of you would know off the top of your head. I have not seen the game since.

You're looking for Rad Mobile. It was released on the Sega Saturn as Gale Racer.

Yes that is it! Thank you. Now if only I could find the home version... I loved that game, but not so much SEGA Rally.
No, it was in an arcade in the US. I remember I did not play much of it, since I was only a kid and thus my driving skills were lacking. But I remember playing it at least once every time I went though. Looking back on it now, that screen shot from the Wiki, although I am not sure if it is the actual Rad Mobile or Gale Storm version, does not look as nice as I remember. I thought Sonic was at least a little bigger and the mirror more in the middle, but those windshield wipers bring back memories. In the Wiki it said if you did not put on the wipers (When raining.) and or lights when needed, (at night) your view would be severally hampered which is pretty cool. And they say the SEGA Saturn version looks even better and you can have different Sonic characters as your air freshener which is a nice touch. The Wiki even said the Sonic as the air freshener was before even his own main game... maybe this was his debut in video games...Quadko wrote:I poked around a little, but all I'm coming up with are mame and sega roms for emulation.
You played it on a PC? Or a console? Any chance you were in Japan or had a Japanese import?
I honestly can not remeber if the arcade cabinet actually moved slightly or just vibrated, but I remember it was slightly raised off the floor. I think maybe it shifted left or right slightly, but I could be mistaken... I remember some arcade cabinets at the very least had some thumping sound. The Wiki did not mention any of that though. A real shame you never got to play it and I wish I would of played more of it when I was younger.
No worries, I think you made the right decision on what you kept and added to it, although I like "dangling from mirror" better, but you only had so much room.MrFlibble wrote:Sorry I had to edit the original thread title a bit, otherwise the game title would not fit in the topic subject field.
Edit: Fixed! But kept the actual title to the game so we all know it was guessed correctly.
The KLOV/Arcade Museum entry might be interesting to take a look, then: http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detai ... me_id=9234
Hey, they even have some for sale for only $500 +/- and shipping issues! I've wanted to collect a few actual arcade cabinets (and I've got a MAME cabinet I built) but that hobby is out of my price range. Just future hopes.

Hmmm... I will have to check that site out later. And that particular game with all it's bells and whistles is only $500 or that is the price of a broken machine or a different game entirely? I could be happy just with the Saturn version and a force feed back wheel and peddles. But to own the cabinet...
And I have always wanted an actual pinball machine, but they are in the thousands I think, plus maintenance wise can be hard unless you know how to do it yourself and where to buy the parts. Thankfully these newer pinball collections starting with the PS2 and up are rather decent and I have heard of two PC player made versions that are suppose to be close to the originals as possible, but never bothered with them. But nothing beats an actual real pinball machine, provided it is in good working order and the machine is not purposely slanted one way to make you lose faster. That is annoying.
