Defence game (kind of shoot em up)

Post by b4ttleduck »

Hello everyone!
I'm Roy, 21 years old from Holland and I'm new to this forum.

Okey this game was freaking awesome.
I used to play this at my friends place...

As far i can remember there where differed scenarios: urban, snow, jungle.
You had to hold out against waves of enemy's trying to reach the other side of the map (they came from the top of the map) and between every wave of enemy's you could build walls and catapults.
In the next wave you could use these catapults to fire rocks at the incoming enemy's.

I think it was a freeware game for windows from around 2000... :shifty:

I hope you can help me out guys!

Sounds a lot like a tower defence type of game. To the best of my knowledge, there are quite a few of those actually, so tracking down the one you played might be not as simple.

MobyGames has a list of tower defence games, probably worth a look :)

Thank you for the list but it wasn't really a tower defence game.
It was more a "shoot them up" idea.

You could play it with 2 players and more if i'm right.
Another scenario was dessert.

That description also somewhat sounds like the old arcade game Rampart where you built walls (castles) and cannons to fight off the badguy ships. I wonder if this could be a Rampart-like game from 2000?

Tower Defense was originally a Warcraft 3 minigame, right? That description also sounds a little RTS-ish, so maybe check out the Warcraft games? Do their graphics look similar to what you recall?

Thank you for your help, sadly it wasn't Rampart and it was no warcraft game also.
Maybe I can draw the gameplay of what i remember.

To be clear:

You could play this game with 2 players
You play as a normal character walking around the map.
The enemy's came from top and walked down the map
between each wave you could build catapults and walls
4 different scenarios: snow, desert, jungle, urban.
with each different scenario you had a different weapon. (I remember a whip, giant snowball.)

Drawing coming soon... ;)

2 player coop or PvP?
Networked or shared/split screen & kbd?

Do you control troops other than your main character, or is the defence automated without any troops?

2D top-down or some sort of 3D view?

I've only played a demo, but does Ambush at Sorinor resemble your game in any respect?

Like this.

For the multiplayer, it is possible to play it in coop mode on one keyboard.
