Old DOS game... something to do with buzzards?

Post by splproductions »

I am reaching clear back into my brain to find an old DOS game that I thought was called Buzzards, or had something to do with buzzards (the bird).

This was a game I would have been playing probably sometime around 1987 to 1989. That doesn't mean it couldn't be older though if my dad had some older software. I was playing this game around the same time I was playing Bouncing Babies (which came out in 1984).

The graphics were very, very primitive - black background I think, probably with white for the other stuff.

Sorry I don't have anything else to go on. Something about buzzards though!!!

The more I look at other games and their graphics, I'm thinking it was probably made sometime around 1984-86.

Sorry... one more addition...

I'm starting to realize that all of the games I played back then were Freeware or Shareware. I was only about 5 years old, and I'm guessing my dad was too cheap to actually buy me any games.

So... old Ninja game, very primitive graphics, possibly 1984-1986 release date, and most likely freeware or shareware.

I vaguely remember a game of that sort... IIRC, it had somewhat similar gameplay to Galaxian, or actually more like the first round of the game Round 42 (also looked like it graphics-wise). I can't remember the name, though.

As for the ninja game, surprising as it might sound, I remember playing quite a lot of ninja game in the eighties... Here are some of the most memorable ones:

Hey Masa,

Thanks for the reply. I just realized I mixed up my posts - it probably seemed a bit confusing.

The buzzards game had nothing to do with Ninjas. I mentioned Ninjas in that last post because I am also looking for a Ninja game that was freeware or shareware and was around that same time.

Unfortunately, it's not any of the ninja games you posted. This one I think had even older graphics than those.

Actually you were pretty clear, as was I. The first paragraph of my post is regarding the first game and the second paragraph is regarding the ninja game.
I did not think you meant that the first game had ninjas in it.

Have you checked the first round of Round 42 ? Is it similar to your buzzards game?

Or also basic: Bruce Lee?

We're getting far from that 'buzzards' game, ah well, that's what you get when mixing several games in one topic.........

When you say 'Buzzards', is it anything like Phoenix? :)

I do believe you were referring to Buzzard Bait, a clone of the arcade game Joust (Wikipedia has an entry on Joust)

I had that back in 1987 on a Compaq Portable II... Never understood what it was about though, since I was only 4 yo at the time.

I would like to play that again though.

The game obtained by googling the aforementioned expression is in fact the game I was talking about. It is a game amazingly similar to Round 42.
See pictures here:

BTW, to run it in DOSBox you'll need CGA machine mode.

The Joust clone that ElPato77 is talking about is a different game, albeit also called Buzzard Bait.

I was actually thinking of the Sirius game. And yeah, I already had it. Just didn't have time to figure out how to run it, it was all messed up in DOSBox.

Setting the .conf to machine=cga works. Thanks Masa B)

I still haven't figured out how to actually play it though lol.
