OLD civil war game: will be in HUGE debt if anyone knows!!
i will be thoroughly impressed if anyone can name/locate anywhere to play or buy this old civil war game. it has to be EXTREMELY old. you pick a side obviously, north or south. then you choose the cabinent members for whatever side. i think there was something of like a rating system (1-10 with the compatibility with the cabinent post) then troops are deployed by numbers in cities. you can move the troops (well, only the number) usually only to one other city that is near by. all battles are simulated, and you cant even watch them. you pick the general you want to lead the attack and thats it!! generals ratings go up and down depending on if they win or lost. its all simulation.
heres another BIG hint. when the south wins, whistling dixie plays, and when the north wins a battle, it plays battle hymn of the republic.
its such a simple game. its not ageod american civil war. i think it may have came on a disk that had a bunch of other dos games on it. i cant remember. it was like 15 to 20 years ago. but i loved that game so much!! i owe a HUGE debt of gratitude to anyone who can find this game and show me either where to buy it or play it. i have looked EVERYWHERE online, and all i can find is ageod american civil war. its kinda close, but its not what im looking for. i think the one im looking for is a bit older. please help!!! thank you!

VERY OLD dos (i think) civil war simulation game
i dont think its on that list. like i said, this game seems to be extremely rare. it might have been a dos game, it may have been a pc game, but iom leaning towards remembering that it was a dos game.
other hints.
you pick north or south (jefferson davis or abraham lincoln)
its turned based.
its ALL simulation. there is no battles to fight or watch. the graphics are EXTREMELY old.
all the generals and cabinent members are assigned a 1-10 rating that moves up or down depending on their performance each year.
like i said, my memory is a little hazy on all the details. all i remember was i really liked this game and i h ave been turning the world and internet over trying to find it!!! it also may have come on a disk which had other games on it. im pretty sure it was a full version game. just remember, it was a really simple civil war game, and its obviously pretty hard to locate now. any help and ill be forever in debt to whoever can find it!!

i think if you played as the south, a main goal was to get france, england or spain i think to intervene on your half, and if you were the union, you wanted those countries to maintain neutrality.
i also think at the beginning screen was a shot of the union flag cut in half diagnolly and the confederate flag was on the other half. its also definitly NOT north and south or the 1987 abandonware civil war game. but the abandonware game kinda resembles it slightly. i hope these descriptions are helping anyone who may have an idea!

I have a demo of a game called American Civil war that sounds a lot like what you're describing. the demo only lets you play on the side of the union and it's very limited in its options but I'll upload it for you. Hope this helps.

Please mboushka, don't upload games.
Post the names and/or link to mobygames if you want to be helpful, but don't expect that we download everything to check if it's koosjer or not.
Acceptable are links to HotU or Abandonia, in extremis to known archive sites as ifarchive or cdtextfiles, read the rules please.
Use your common sense.
To wilki3: If you're really so eager to know what mboushka has in mind register on DGF so he/she/it can PM the link to you.

I think I am looking for the same Civil War game.
There's no actual combat; units simply have life bars and the bars decrease to the sounds of combat. The units are hats, horses, and cannons representing foot soldiers, cavalry, and artillery respectively. Naval boats are present and can be used to blockade the enemy.
At the beginning of the game you select a particular general with each general having a different starting position and different units at his command. There are some random events like Britain offering aid to the South and more. Plus, neutral states will join your cause, or the enemy's, if you invade their territory.
I'm looking through my parents' old computer boxes, but I don't think they have it anymore.

Civil WAr
I have a Civil War game, on the front cover it says "Civil War" below that "IBM 3.5" version 1.00" below that, "...yet another Educational Vision from"
below that "Entrex Software Inc." then the contact info. It is actually a game on a diskette, oddly enough. I've had this since I was a little kid, but probably haven't actually played it for about 20 yrs. Does anybody know if they ever made this on a cd rom? As my computers now don't have disk slots on them.

I guess I might be wrong, but I guess "North&South" has not yet been mentioned...

VGA Civil War Strategy Game
I just spent the better part of my morning looking for a specific Civil War game, which sounded very similar to the one you were looking for. I remember playing it at my Uncles house as a kid. Well, I found it
I'd post a link but not allowed to. It's called VGA Civil War Strategy Game by W.R. Hutsell
