Sig length request

I find the 250 character limit on sigs a bit restrictive. My usual sig is as follows-

<CENTER><A HREF="http://www.litepc.com/index.html"><IMG SRC="http://www.procerus.btinternet.co.uk/98 ... A></CENTER>
<CENTER>with <FONT COLOR=FF0000><B>629K</B></FONT> of free conventional memory in full DOS mode using QEMM 9.0<BR>(or 628K with <A HREF="http://www.uwe-sieber.de/umbpci_e.html">UMBPCI.SYS</A> providing real mode for <A HREF="http://www.fastgraphics.com/forum/fastv ... FastVid</A>) with SmartDrive, CD-ROM,
<A HREF="http://cutemouse.sourceforge.net/">CuteMouse</A>, sound support and <A HREF="http://unirefresh.demonews.com/">UniRefresh</A> all loaded high.</CENTER>

I'm prepared to accept that that is a little too long and perhaps flashy. I'm perfectly prepared to use a reduced version without the graphic. But I'd still appreciate it if the character limit could be raised to 500 or so?

It's not as if the 500 characters are visible since most of it's the HTML for the links and I'm sure all my useful links would reduce your support requests on the forum. Oh go on. You know you want to.

Pretty please? :D

I don't have a problem with it. 250 is very small. I agree.

your signature is not really supposed to be an advertisement... i think 250 is perfect...

He's describing his computer. I don't think he's advertising anything.

i agree. I had the same problem. Just do what i did :dont make your sig flashy. THere should be a way to make it 250 VISIBLE characters so that it discludes any recognized HTML tags. But alas, i am almost 100% sure that this is impossible

its just a sig...stop fighting over it.... if you dont want to go to this board because your sig is small then you are dumb...otherwise be happy mz allows sigs...

I personally think 255 is enough ... I think a sig should be your name, and a short message, not a big ad or anything. While we're on the subject of sigs, I'm getting really tempted to remove the MARQUEE tag ... IMHO when used in (multiline) sigs it's kind of annoying ...... so, while I hate to do stuff like prevent users from using tags, the MAQUEE tag really is kind of annoying ............

I don't have any connection with any of the five links apart from using their products. As John says I'm merely describing my computer. It is common on more hardware/modern gaming oriented sites for people to itemize their kit in their sigs and they're then effectively advertising massive company's products. The two links which point to shareware in my sig (most of that stuff is free) are both one-man coders.

Furthermore my sig, which I use on several boards, is actually a dig at the pace of the computer industry and the effect this has on our hobby (ten years ago tweaking an autoexec.bat was what we did instead of overclocking) and at the loss of backwards compatibility implicated by the rise of Windows XP. Backwards compatibility, the ability to play ten year old games on modern hardware, was really the only advantage the cludge that is the PC has over the Mac platform (where they keep writing off their own heritage every time they begin to develop one!).

I like this board. You people are fun. And I hope you won't take offense from this. But this reaction to my sig leaves me wondering how you really feel (and how much you really know about) DOS?

In the name of irony I am prepared to forgo any sig here whilst I will continue to wear it like a banner in other, less apposite, forums in order to spread the DOS word amongst the young and overclocked. B)

 What is it about when people are in public forums on the internet that they have to make big deals out of EVERYTHING? Unlike what is insinuated here I know a great deal about DOS. ;) I don't have any problem with the content of your sig, I was merely stating that it was my personal opinion that sigs should be short. I don't go around making up baseless rules and enforcing them based on my own personal whims, I just try to come up with policies that are generally fair to all and make sense.

Since it doesn't really matter much to me I've increased the max sig length to 640 (for further irony). :D Keep in mind if someone starts doing really crazy stuff with it I'll probably ask them to change it, of course.

Oh, lakerzz8, you don't have to remove marquee from your sig, I was just suggesting that I found it kind of annoying and that other members might feel the same way, so you might want to consider changing it. If you want to keep it it's up to you. :)

I think there should be a way to limit sigs by size like an avatar rather than words. Procerus's sig doesn't look big at all, but then somebody could do something stupid like type "interpretationnessesy" (not really a word) about 255 times and make it quite longer than proc's sig.

Like it! I'm supposed to see how much of the 640 I can keep free right? There's something familiar about that.

Sorry I was a grumpy pillock, emmzee. Forgive me for throwing a wobbly. Yesterday was generally a bad day and I took it out innappropriately here  .

Thank you. :D
