Hamachi DOS game compatibility list

Post by The_Sinister_Mastermind »

Since Larry is a lazy sod, seems I have to do this. :P

Anyway rather then re-post the entire list of known working games for Hamachi here, I'll link to there’s (Linky).

What this thread is going to be used for is the following:
  • A key focus on older games (Obviously)
  • Listing games we have tried and know work
  • Any special circumstances / processes needed to play listed games*
* If the steps required to get a game working are a little complicated, please post a new thread with said instructions and a link will be added next to the game here.

Right now, this list is obviously rather small, as we test more games, leave a message here and one of the other admins or myself will add the game to the list. Games not listed in bold still have some issues which will be noted at the bottom

Working games:

Abuse
Actua Soccer 2
Atomic Bomberman
DOOM (Original .wad files required)
DOOM 2 (Original .wad files required)
Warcraft 2 - Tides Of Darkness (PM Larry for a download link if your copy doesn't work)

Games that do not work:

7 Colors

Notes:
Both DOOM 1 & 2 suffer lag, usually when playing an opponent not in the same country, current fixes include using a Windows port such as Doomsday or Skulltag.

Right! Well the lazy sod has this to say... most of the games I checked(but haven't been yet posted here) come from the HOTU Multiplayer games section and any help with the testing would be greatly appreciated.

And also, there is ONE certain server that has Warcraft 2 -TOD and that it actually detects the network! so if your games just slams you with an "Unable to detect network" error, PM me and I'll give you the download link!

I also tested it with a buddy of mine from the UK, using both Legacy and Doomsfay and despite the lag wasn't as bad as I got when I tried playing againt Franpa, it was still there... however, I did notice that random Legacy internet servers don't have lag... so I wonder if I should blame it on Hamachi or just the distance...

dunno, but I noticed something, when my buddy alt-tabbed out of the game(I have the feeling that if I'll say that he wanted to download from a torrent while playing DOOM, your jaw will fall) and the whole game lagged like crazy... I for one, am all up for furhter testing(especially since for some reason War2 no longer wants to create servers)

Also, while I got on this thing, until now, I believe that DOSBox does not support netowking, which means that in order to actually play an old [DOS] game over Hamachi, it will have to run fine on XP.

This also means that MACs won't be able to play DOS games over Hamachi...

But if you know more than I do, feel free to say "Larry you're a moron and DOSBox fully supports Hamachi, so stop pretending you know everything, you N00B!

Ok, now that we got this out of the way, DOSBox supports networking, HOWEVER, The U.S.S Enterprise is more user friendly! If you don't know what I mean, here's the Link, however, that thread is 3 years old and the current DB version(0.65) doesn't appear to have that IPXNET program... stand by for updates!
