DOS-MAN!

Post by Santhosh CHRiS »

Hey I have some exciting news for you all, DOS-MAN (starring our infamous Dangerous Dave, Mr.Dwarakaji, and ofcourse er... the mean boss behind it all (me?) has been released as an Alpha on Newgrounds here

http://www.newgrounds.com/ngmag/alphas/alpha/1883

I WOULD have finished making this movie weeks ago, but due to some severe lag and skipping of frames in the animation when run on full screen I have kept it aside at the moment until I figure out a way to reduce the lag

Anywayz, I would be thrilled if anyone here would like to screen test the movie on their computers and give suggestions as I gradually solve the problem. Your name ofcourse will be mentioned in the credits and you will be seeing the finished movie before ANYONE else does.

And 'Back to the Start Mario A.E. (alternate ending) will also be released soon.

Sorry for the HUGE gap between my posts.

Also the publicity from 'Back to the Start Mario' has been GREAT! It's been featured in MANY websites after it's release at Albinoblacksheep. Including the No.1 Coldplay fan site, kotaku, freetheflash.com, plus much more. Thanks for all your support!

Anywayz I gotta run. I will reply all posts when I get back from college tomorrow evening (Indian time)

Swell... But can you make it so that the movie get's into a bigger window? Or was that just because it was a DEMO???

It is probably because it is only demo.

Well yes it's partly true because it is a demo and also whenever I make it full screen or a bigger window, the smoothness of the animation is lost (especially during stylish blur scenes) and it begins to lag at times which is VERY frustrating after you work so hard. Before it's release I want to make it so even people with older computers could view it without any sort of distortion. In the end if nothing else works I might even convert the whole Flash into a video format like AVI or something. If anyone can here can help me on this I would really appreciate it!

And yeah thanks for the compliments guys

Sorry for the double post but here is a way you guys can help me out. In the below link you will see the same demo movie with a choice of 7 different screen resolutions (size of the movie window) on the top. Click on each of them one by one to see in which resolution the movie plays at best with zero lag in your computer and post here. Everyone who participates will get their name mentioned in the final credits as 'Special thanks to the Movie Testers'

Look particularly at the blur and zoom past scene, and try it on all Quality levels High, Medium and Low.

Here is the link

Also currently 'DOS-MAN' is the number-1 in the TOP Anticipated movies list at Newgrounds wooooooot! :D

Well I'm using a screen resolution of 1024 by 768 and a 32 bit color depth
for the testing
320x240 low quality: A little bit of lag on the "escape pushed blur" sequence
~ medium quality: Same problem
~ high quality: Same problem
480x360 low quality: The lag is not as much as earlier but it still is there
~ medium quality: Same as above
~ high quality: Same as above
640x480 low quality: A little lag -but not a lot- on the image changin(besides the upper problem) like from lookin up at coffe-mug man and throwing screen on the floor.
~ medium quality: same as above... less lag on blur sequence
~ high quality: same as above... more lag after lookin up at coffe-mug man
800x600 low quality: same problems...
~ medium quality: the same... also I noticed that on 800x600 I can see a shadowed hand of the gamer's left hand...
~ high quality: the same...
1024x768 low quality: I'm talking about some MAJOR video-sound lag at the beginning
~ medium quality: the same...
~ high quality: I just noticed you can see that guy's face reflection on the screen... cool, though I think it would improve the starting time(less starting lag) if the video would have been made without it
1280x960 low quality: HOLY CRAP!!! DAVE is HUUUUUGE!!!!!!!!! same problems though
~ medium quality:Same problems
~ high quality: Same problems
1600x1200 low quality: OH MY GOD!!! DOS-Man doesn't fit my browser window :D same problems though
~ medium quality: nothing new
~ high quality: don't see any diferences

-----------------------------------
Bottom line:
1. for me the video works best at 320x240 any quality
2. the blur sequence is very lagish
3. a little problem at the the "september 5th 2006" can't be read because it's white and it's over the clock's white screen
4. Noticed that witching from mozila firefox to Internet Explorer reduces the lag
5.  GREAT MOVIE!!!  Can't wait to see the full of it

Oh,yeah, thats MUCH better then thre small demo!(Hence my screen resolution is 1280×1024,lol)

Also the movie is FANTASTIC!It is only laggy for a at the blur and zoom scene moment when the guy presses the esc button,on high quality.
On medium and low quality it runs perfectly for me.

Wow thanks for your effort Larry Laffer! You too Ro@m! I am especially glad the movie runs perfect on your computer Ro@m, because it gives me confidence that this movie will be viewed perfectly by atleast some. right now thinking of going with 320x240 or 480x360 and suggest strongly for everyone to switch to Low Quality before viewing.

Hmmm seems that my antivir was updating while I checked... now works just fine up to 800x600 but after that it starts lagging. The blur problem is still there though.

runs fine at high quality on 1280x960. (desktop resolution of 1600x1280... that resolution is not enough to fully view the 1600x1200 version of the video)

where is the blur effect? (i didn't notice one)
