sounds very interesting... I remember my mom saying that it got lots of churchy people up in arms... and my gramma has apparently read it like twice or more so far, so it must be a decent book.

Churchy people get up in arms about all kinds of stupid things, gives them something to rally against.

You do have to be careful about books that are fiction but written like they are real, especialy about anything religious. :devil:

The author says several times that none of it is real, and it's simply an interesting conspiracy theory to go along with a murder mystery plot. (Much like people would make up conspiracy theories about NASA or the CIA for detective novels, or what)

Unfortunately, some people believed that it was a true story (heck, I've met people who base arguments on "facts" they learnt in the book. How dumb could people be?) And that caused a large misunderstanding with several churches who thought the writer was trying to spread Satanist propaganda, or whatnot. IMO, he was just trying to write an interesting detective novel, but wasn't very wise as far as picking out the background plot... (or maybe he never thought people would get so upset about it/enthralled with it? Who Knows?)

I agree, many churches overreacted. The only difference I see between this book and other historical fiction novels is that this book is described as a meticulously researched work, and statements that it makes like "All descriptions of art work, architecture, documents and secret rituals in
this novel are accurate." make it even more difficult for readers to tell where the fiction starts and stops, especially when many of the historically untrue statements in the book are coming from a professor of religion.

Most of that is just printing out counts of 2000 random #'s to show that the distribution is basically even, the 2nd last line is the one that generates the random # :angel:

lemme just figure out all of this... does it create 2000 pulls, then the number that got the most pulls is the winner?

my friend and I looked at it, and using my results for like 30 refreshes, we've concluded it more or less goes by 2^n-1 therefore, 1 3 and 7 are where it's at. lol... I'd have to try that a few zillion more times tho b4 I can come up with a bit more accurate formula... it's 2:30am and I need rest. I'll do it later. :laugh:

The final number it chooses is totally unrelated to those first numbers.

The first numbers are intended to show that, over 2000 random number selections, that all the numbers have an essentially equal chance to win.

As for when the next contest will be, I'm not sure. Probably in 1-2 months :)
