2nd Free Book from Amazon.com DGF Contest Thread!

Post by emmzee »

It's that time again. And by "that time", I mean the time when I give away a free book to a lucky DGF (DOS Games Forum) member!

Here's how this works, in case you missed it the first time:

1) Post a link in this thread to a book that you want on Amazon.com.

2) After a week or so, after giving everyone a chance to post, I'll randomly pick someone (using a random # generator) and they'll get whatever book they posted.

3) There are no catches! Um except these ones ......

Catches:
- Maximum price of $25US for ONE book only (you can't, for example, get five $5 books, since that would increase my shipping costs)
- One entry/book only per person
- You must be a registered member of this message board and have at least 50 non-garbage posts (as of today, August 3rd)
- Only books are eligible prizes ... no video games, electronics, etc
- The book should be in stock (ie it should say "Availability: Usually ships within 24 hours")
- Admin & mods may enter
- Nothing with content that could be deemed obscene/offensive
- Previous winners cannot enter (which means, in this case, that Da_Goat cannot enter  )

Before you ask:
- This is coming out of my own pocket ... well, money I've made from dosgames.com
- You don't have to "do" anything to get your prize other than post an Amazon link ... you'll have to give me your full real name, postal address and phone number (so that Amazon can ship the book to you!) after you win ... but this will be of course be kept totally confidential
- I'm just doing this for fun ;)

So pick something you want and maybe you'll win The winner will be decided by assigning a number to each person who posts and running a random number generator.

The exact end date of this contest isn't really decided but it will probably end in about a week. So, make your selection ... good luck all

Brave New World

$21.73

Been wanting to read it for a while, but for some reason, all the copies at the local library have been stolen.

I doubt it, but you DO have about 1 hour 35 minutes to get to 50 posts...

Mmm, nice choice, though I never read all of it. I've got a few leather-bound editions somewhere around here.

it was either that, or Svejk, but for whatever reason I cant explain, I dont think the U.S. translation would make justice to Hasek's masterpiece. so, the silmarillion will have to do.

Just wanted to briefly comment that, although its fine to choose this book for this contest, that for anyone who has read, is reading, or planning to read Da Vinci Code: You should not take seriously the "history" presented in this book as fact. Of course, this is a fictional novel, but often times characters (like professors etc) discuss supposed "facts" which some readers may accept as genuine because of their presentation. I have not read this book (perhaps when it becomes available in softcover), and this is not really the proper thread to discuss these issues indepth. Just couldn't resist briefly commenting on that ;) If you're interested in more info on this subject there is a decent article available at TUMC (PDF)
