DOS Games Discussion Forum Free Stuff Contest 2010!

Post by emmzee »

It's been several years since the last contest (I think ... the last thread I found was from 2006!) so I figured it was time to do this again!

DOS Games Discussion Forum Free Stuff Contest 2010!!! (whew)

Here's how this works:

Post a message here listing one (1) item (book, movie, game, etc) valued at $30US or less available through <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html? ... om</a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=dosg ... &l=ur2&o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt=""> or preferably <a href="http://www.bookdepository.com/">BookDepository.com</a> (since they have free worldwide shipping). Choose an item that's easily shipped, ie, don't request a chainsaw or mausoleum or something. Include a link to the item in your post and why you chose it.

After a few weeks (or an arbitrary duration of time of my choosing) I'll conduct a random draw and THREE winners will receive their chosen item, gratis, from the overflowing coffers (*coughs*) here at DOSGames.com. I may also throw in a bonus item or two with it ;)

Rules:
- One entry per person and choose a single item; don't try to get four $5 books or something.
- You must be a registered member of this forum and have at least, say, 20 non-garbage posts as of today (October 26 2010)
- I'll order from either Amazon or BookDepository, whichever is cheaper and carries the item you want. (Or Amazon.ca or Chapters.ca if you're in Canada.)
- Preferably the item you choose should be in stock.
- No obscene items (ie, if your mother would be ashamed of you, it's probably not acceptable here)
- Previous winners may enter again; mods & admin are eligible
- Note that winners will obviously need to provide me with their address to send the item, but your personal info will be kept private and will not be stored permanently or used for any purpose other than sending you the item

Okay I think that's all. Please ask if you have any questions ... and please invite any former regulars to the forum (DG alumni?) to come back and post too. :)

(For those who are interested here's links to the previous contests: <a href="http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic ... ">December 2006</a>, <a href="http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic ... 230">March 2006</a>, <a href="http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic ... 81">August 2004</a>, <a href="http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic ... 963">April 2004</a>)

Yea I think I mass-emailed anyone who signed up for the forum. However, given that the database has ballooned over the last few years, I'm a bit wary of just spamming everyone. (That's how my mail servers could get flagged as spam, and it's a pain in the arse to get companies to remove 'em from their lists.) Maybe I'll just send emails to the most frequent posters.

I'll give my vote to TD, since he recently gave me his copy of Rome: Total War.

Might as well go for this.

Also, emmzee, you could filter the database to those with 20+(or some other arbitrary number) posts and mail them from another mail account/server. It doesn't really have to be an official announcement, just a reminder<strike>spam</strike>.

Not fussy over which site you get it from, I've heard a lot about the book, thought it'd be a great read.

You've still linked to the cart page, not the actual item one.

Yep, I kinda forgot about it. I'll email a few of the regulars of days past and see if they'd like to participate! :)
