No sound in older games in dosbox

Post by nerdnils »

Hi there,

I can't get sound in older games to work. At the moment I am trying hole in one minigolf from 1989 and Litil Divil from 1993. The games work fine but I can't get them to play any sound no matter which soundcard I choose.
Tried a downloaded version and an old CD version of both I still got. Soundblaster is shown when dosbox starts. Using archlinux as operating system.

For example in Betrayal at Krondor from 1993 sound works fine. Why do those 2 games not give any sound?

How to get this running?

Greetings

[EDIT] In Litil Divil ist was an ashaming mistake: the configuration file was not writable. Hole in one minigolf still open[/EDIT]

Some games use their own setup programs to configure sound.

(I don't recall how Litil Divil did it, my copy is in storage somewhere.)

Maybe you need to set soundblaster settings in dosbox config?

I think dosbox defaults to 220, 7, 1 (original SB defaults); but many games defaulted to 220, 5, 1 (common/later default). But usually games had a way to configure that, as Rwolf says.

Here's the documentation for dosbox.conf sound card setup:
