How good is your memory of Greek history?

Because if you still remember the crap you learned in school, this movie won't be very enjoyable - mainly because it takes the actual battle of Thermopylae, then changes all the facts and adds... orcs? Weird looking soldiers, anyway.

On the other hand, acting isn't bad, special effects are awesome, cinematography is pretty decent, good phalanx-style fighting coordination (never personally seen it in a movie before) and there are lots of naked chicks.

I'd say go ahead and watch it, if only to understand all the internet jokes that have come from it.

Pretty good.
I've read all that was related to the old Greek and Roman history.
Serious stuffs included.

That's promising ...... :huh:

Well, the Ephors are all lewd Gollum-like creatures, the oracle at Delphi makes her prediction ("a king will die or a nation will fall", except they don't actually even quote that in the movie) by basically taking off her clothes and dancing around naked for a couple minutes... logical enough, right?

The Thebans, Thespians, and especially the Helots present are all either eliminated or greatly looked over, the simultaneous battle at Salamis is completely excluded.

Xerxes is a 2.5 meter tall black man who wears about 50 kg of bling and has magical powers, the orcs of Mordor have taken up the role of the Immortals, and there are giant hippopotamuses and men with swords for arms and the like.

Basically, they turned an incredibly brilliant historical battle into a dumbed down 'The Lord of the Rings'... those special effects guys keep getting carried away.

Oh well, it's still fun to watch.

Just finished watching the movie.
Not bad afterall, not bad at all, pretty good even aslong as ..... you forget it's supposed to be kinda a 'historical based' movie.

Lolled with Xerxes.
Had he been really such a weirdo he would never had gathered such an empire.

But the movie itself is good, regarding it as a fantasy movie.
Troy revisited, so to say.
Two of a kind.

:)

Tonight, we dine in the lounge-room! With butter.

Seriously though, I'm not sure what I think of 300. I've seen worse, but it's definately not my favourite movie either.

The only way to enjoy that movie is:
-> Lean back.
-> Brain on autopilot.
-> Couple of beers and enough chips.
-> And above all forget the claimed 'historical' background.

Hey you even get some matrix slowdown effects.

....... And lollephants.

And a good book to read whilst it plays can also help.

Oh, maybe they were, then. It's been a year since I saw it, but I just remember laughing at it.

It's a great movie if you expect an action-filled fighting movie.

If you want a great story-line that is based on historical facts then you'll be disappointed.

I entered wanting some cool fight scenes and I was not disappointed.

And I got a year's worth of motivational quotes to boot.
