Ultima

Post by Dopefish »

Does anyone else here like the Ultima games? I love them myself, I consider it the best RPG series ever made.

I have the Ultima Collection (Akalabeth/Ultima I-VIII), a CD with both Ultima Underworld games, Ultima Online, and Ultima IX.

I liked the earlier ones when they were new (3 and 4), but have not touched them since even though I have 4 and 5 for the PC and at least 1 version for the Amiga.

Ultima 7 was my favorite. The level of interactivity is crazy, it's almost a real world.

I love the Ultima series. Ultima 7 is by far my favorite, and I've played them all except the online ones. I wrote a review of U7 in the Review board a while back.

Speaking of U7, I don't remember how I came across THIS, but it's a simple program called Exult. It's a home-made Ultima7 engine which boosts the level of funness in the game apparently. It was originally designed for Linux users, but they were nice enough to code it for windows too.

NOTE: you NEED to have the original Ultima7 files in your computer for this to work!!

Ultima 8 was my favorite game of all Dos games
Second one was Simon the sorcerer I and II.

I finally finished Ultima 8 recently - I love the ending video.

The most intresting part about Ultima 8 is the music and story line. unlike other ultima;s where everyone loves u - once u become the avatar./

In this intrinsic game - u r the hated one - the one that knows nothing. I mean HOW many times have u seen "Stranger" in that game?
WOW!
Nothing is better than this game. Its actually scary as sh*t!
It should be rated PG13

I got very frustrated with U8 (couldn't find an exit in the underground caverns) until finally I caved in and finished it with a walkthrough.

In the end it had a decent plot, but it takes too long to get into it. Other issues I had with it are that the upgraded graphics they used meant the game was a bit small & the arcade gameplay wasn't exactly my cup of tea either.

For some reason Ultima IV on the sega master system is my fave - probably because it is the first I finished.

I really have to get that, I want to know how gameplay works with a controller.

works great - they replace the typing with a keyword tree you navigate.. takes the guesswork out of conversation. I think practically everything made it across.. the big enhancement is the graphics and sound, which are streets ahead of the pc version.
