Starfire...not the best graphics of course, but strikes me as a true DOS game...quite well-designed.

Of course, I've probably only really played about 10% of the games listed so...there's probably better stuff in there.

you know? I would have put jackrabbit in my favourites too, if it hadnt been for the horrible collision detection system. until I finished the game, I remember getting stuck *inside* the walls tens of times. andI started getting paranoic. thats why Jackrabbit didnt leave suh a good taste to em. (although visuals+sounds+atmosphere were ultra good.)

Oh my, how could I not mantion ZZT? ZZT's the best game. (if you can call it a game, it's more like a program) But anyway...
"Long before there was ultra-super-duper-128-bit-polygon-video-capture, hardware hype, wEiRd TyPe, pointless game ratings, E3, SCREAMING GUYS in ads, Virtual Reality, cliches like "in your face" and "it's the ultimate", 360 degree roto-scope-rhetoric from self righteous reviewers, CD-this, 3-D that, multi-million-dollar TV commercials tainted with TOILET humor...

...there was fun."

Its not a smiley. n00b.
Technically, it is an emoticon, and "Smiley" is shorthand for emoticon, so yeah, it is. And please, for our sake, dont say "n00b". Leetspeak is so... lame. Anyway, you haven't explained it to him yet, so I will. Its a heart, and it means "love".

But anyway, my favorite is Tyrian.

Smiley refers to a face, which it does not have. An i said n00b because the phpBB official chat room has been getting to me lately.

At least *someone* here has good taste. Yes, Tyrian is one of my favorites along with Star Command, SC2, Solar Winds and Radix. I do believe Tyrian has yet to be succeeded by a more advanced or intricate foward scrolling shooter-granted those aren't too common these days.

The commander keen series was cool, nothing like some scrollers for a quick thrill.

My favourite, without a doubt, would be Cannon Fodder. I have to try Tyrian though if it's as good as you people say it is. :karate:

Wether a game is good or not depends on the player. I bet nobody here has the exact top 10 dos lists for dos games.

I said my favorite was Jazz Jackrabbit in another topic, but now It's a two way tie between Hocus Pocus and Mystic Towers.
