TMNT -> Nope :)

Hint 4: The player could perform magic attacks by collecting magic pots throughout the game.

Golden Axe: YES! :bday:

I saw that Golden Axe was one of the guesses to the earlier games (which was not correct), but it is obviously correct in this case. :)

Let's summarize:
Hint 1: The DOS port of this game supported the full soundtrack (music, not just sound effects) being played through the PC speaker.
That is indeed the case, although the game supports Adlib/SoundBlaster as well, and will use them for music, if available. The sound effects are always played through the PC speaker.
Hint 2: In the DOS version of the game, in low memory situations, some characters will be replaced with other characters, to reduce the total size of the graphics that need to be loaded.
Usually they are replaced with Longmoans. I have seen some giants, Death Adder / Death Bringer's skeletons, and even the knight at the end of Level 3 replaced with Longmoans more than once in low-memory conditions.
Hint 3: In this game there is a plot twist, wherein upon defeating the final enemy, it is revealed that he was not in fact the final enemy, and the game continues for two more levels.
In the beginning, the player is told that they must defeat Death Adder, who kidnapped the king & princess. Upon defeating him, at the end of Level 6, it is revealed that Death Adder was merely taking orders from someone yet unknown, and the game continues until the final showdown with the Death Bringer (Level 8). This "twist" was unique to the home ports (Genesis, PC), and not present in the original Arcade release.
Hint 4: The player could perform magic attacks by collecting magic pots throughout the game.
That's a dead giveaway, of course. :) The magic pots are collected from the little blue thieves. Each character has a different maximum number of pots they can hold at any given time.

So, wardrich takes this one, and now it's his turn.:jester:

I'll pass my turn over to Aldeb. He's got one lined up with a magazine ad. I'll PM him to let him know.

Thanks wardrich

Here's half of the game add plus a few clues to go with it :D

Clues:
* It's a shooter from around the late 90s
* It gained quite a lot of popularity
* It had a shotgun for a weapon, among other available guns
cheers

The add might seem vague, but you can see a few details that reference the game directly. Good luck to you all :laugh:

Quake or Quake II? Can't remember when they were released but Quake II must have been late 90s.

It was the gun that tipped me off. I was thinking it looked like the BFG but I couldn't place the game. The alien symbol reminded me more of Warhammer or Mechwarrior. I never would have placed that one.

Hint 1: This 90's game was coded almost (if not completely) in assembly. As such, it will still work relatively hassle-free on computers today.

No clue. I do not even know what "assembly" means. If nothing else I would have to say Minesweeper. (I know now that is not it, since I was curious on the date it was made and researched, but that was my original answer so I shall stick with it. That and I would not know another game anyway, by the clue given.)

Also you can only give one answer at a time, not three... :no: :D
