New website opens: www.play.vg !!!

Post by emmzee »

Please check out my new site:

http://www.play.vg

Let me know if you have any problems with it. I've just started promoting it, and its very new, so there may well be small "issues" with it :)

Also, any features you'd like to see ... besides the following which I've already thought of and/or will add:
- something in the Adventure category which is empty ATM
- user ratings for games (will add sometime later)

Thanks all :) Tell your friends to go to PLAY dot V G !

That is an awesome site, Emmzee... I'm already having daydreams about wasting hours on end playing Defender and Q-Bert. ;) I noticed some (I won't say "many" since I've only played a few so far) of the games are hosted on your site, did you have any trouble getting copyright permission/coding for those games?

For almost all games locally on the site, the authors expressly give permission to download/use their games. For example the games featured on the front page are by Paul Neave (neave.com) and 2DPlay (2dplay.com). 2DPlay, for example has a big link that says "Add Free Arcade Games To Your Website" on their site.

There are some others that are hosted that the original website isn't around anymore, and since these games are already hosted all 'round the place on all different sites, I figure theres no harm in also hosting myself. :)

Here's something interesting I noticed: 007arcadegames.com is another "free online games" site. They too have a "Add Games 2 Your Site" link, shown here:

http://www.007arcadegames.com/addgames2yoursite.php

Which says, in part: "The following arcade games on this page you may download and host on your own website. You are NOT allowed to edit the files and/or remove any links back to us."

So you would assume that they must have created, or at least have rights to distribute these games in this way. Now ... look closely at the games they're offering. The code they give you that comes with these games includes links back to their (007arcadegames) site, for which "You are NOT allowed to edit the files and/or remove any links back to us".

Now pay a visit to neave.com:
http://www.neave.com/games/

Notice anything?

Seems what 007arcadegames has done, is take Paul Neave's games, repackaged them with links to their own site, and is redistributing them. To me, this seems like a shady practice, unless they have some sort of agreement with Mr Neave to distribute his games in this manner. What do you guys think? I'm considering talking with the owner of 007arcadegames about this since he visits another forum that I post at ...

omg, I just had a CRAZY idea. You should add the option to register, and then allow for a High Scores list for all the games.
