Forum upgrade, & Q'n re phpBB 3.0?

Post by emmzee »

Upgraded the forum to 2.0.23 ... also, is it worth it to upgrade to forum to phpBB 3.0? I haven't really looked at the new features nstuff, nor what sort of work would be required to do the upgrade ... thoughts?

It's pretty new, the final release, isn't it?
Looks neat, and would make Wally happy.
Aslong as you keep the BBCodes the same, 'cause I don't want to rewrite all the howtos. :(

Yes or no, it's your decision, you know that forum upgrades are a lot of work.

At least, it would keep you busy for a while and off the streets....
Ya never know, maybe we gonna get a nice blanco forum if you screw up.

I haven't seen any revolutionary changes in 3.0.

In fact, the admin panel is much harder to use in my opinion.

You're the one that nags about 'upgrading the forum' all the time, Wally.

BTW, looked a bit further into phpBB3 , some more possibilities, members can do more, some more integrations if allowed. (file attachments and such...)
I guess that in the long run you will have to upgrade, support for 2.x will dropout one day, but it won't be soon.

So if you want to upgrade, launch the 'wizard' and cross your fingers .... :o

Interesting times ahead.

phpBB3 could be nice. But, whatever you do, make sure you have EVERYTHING FULLY BACKED-UP beforehand. Otherwise, you're asking for trouble.

stick with phpbb2, the tiny font and small font have some letters/characters being clipped in phpbb3 under windows XP >.> which is a minuscule annoying.
