I've only being playing DOS games since 1996 because I got my first PC in 1996, an old 486 comp running at 66 MHZ & Windows 3.11, my current comp is a Gateway 3.20 GHZ comp running Win XP.

Plains & simple, Abadonware is illegal because the companies haven't given permission for the games to be distrubuted. Distrubuting software without the copyright owners is illegal.

Even though old software isn't being sold, the companies who own the copyrights haven't given up their copyrights.

The only Apogee can which I own is Hocus Pocus but I've played the shareware versions of the other Apogee games. Hocus Pocus was bought online over 7 yrs. ago from Wizardworks.
