Well a pet is a pet, not a trained beer fetcher.. don't be selfish. I never had a dog (well once we had a german sheppard for a month), but plenty of cats here. Each cat has its own personality and are nice to have around. Not having to pick up big piles of shit from the neighbors sidewalk while the...

Tseng ET4000 based VLB cards should do well in DOS games, most other accelerators were designed for Windows performance.

386 are fine for older games, use the turbo function button to drop a 33/40Mhz part down to 8Mhz if the games run too fast (without rebooting). P200's are nice for the last DOS era games as stated. There are 386's that are surface mounted (last generation) but most used a socket (not a ZIF socket li...

I think what people offer and post as wanted depends on the economy of the area. Computer equipment tends to be in demand all over, so if something is posted people who camp out on the computer and hit refresh on their email every 5 seconds will tend to snag it first. Most people hand the decent equ...

The only built in sound I can tolerate was the speaker found in the Tandy machines (I have a Tandy 1000HX PC Jr compatible type machine for the very old CGA and TGA games). The only thing the PC speaker is good for is letting me know a newer machine is overheating or there is a problem on bootup (an...

I prefer the Dual Floppy drive units (3.5" and 5.25" HD both in the space of a cdrom type bay).

My 386/40 uses one of those, and I do have a decent selection of games and files on 5.25" DD and HD disks (because that is what I used in the 19880's and early 1990's).

Some are surface mounted (mine is), others have a socket so the CPU can be replaced. It is much easier and cheaper just to find a motherboard and chip installed on ebay then to hunt for each item seperatly.

I don't think there was a socket designation for 386 systems. Anyway try to find a 386 DX 40 motherboard with 8x 30 pin RAM slots, a FPU installed would be nice also. If the battery is dead and leaking replace it or it will kill the keyboard port. You will need a Serial mouse (unless you get an old ...

The Soundblaster 16 and later cards were never Soundblaster Pro 2.0 100% compatible because of changes in hardware (I have a SBpro 2.0 just for this reason). So do you know which games, if any, are effected by this issue ?!? I'm sure there are some but couldn't you then just use the older SB 1.0 co...

Apple has made quite a few pieces of garbage in its time along with some classic expandable machines. There are crappy games for every platform ever made, nothing new there. If you think there are better games for the Mac because fewer were made I would have to say you are nuts.

There are numerous versions of Windows and Mac OS each with good and bad points to them. The best OS is the one that runs your applications with the least amount of problems added on the hardware specified by the application.

The chipsets that did support SDRAM had one or maybe 2 sockets and only used small sizes of slow PC66 dimms, not much of an advantage. Super socket 7 boards had better chipsets but were aimed at K6's since intel had moved onto the P2 by then (BX chipset being the best/most stable). http://www.pcguid...

The best Intel Pentium chipset was the HX (server class). The VX and TX could not cache more then 64MB of memory (so if you add more your system slows down quite a bit). There were other differences too.

There are alot of movies out on VHS that will never see DVD because they are just not that popular. The same thing happened in music when records got replaced by tapes and then cd's. There will always be something that never makes the jump. I voted for DVD because the stuff I like is in widescreen a...
