The only side-scrolling RTS kinda like game I can think of is The Tone Rebellion (there's also the Clonk series but that one is certainly not what you're looking for).

Re: Top Down DOS Spaceship Shooter, Defend Earth from Aliens
What I do remember that maybe distinct is the intro and game over sequences. It starts with a news broadcast that has a real voice over, the anchorman mentioning how the Earth's environment is pretty much wrecked (I believe the game takes place in the near future). The broadcast is cut off by the a...

It has been noted numerous times, and actually stated in the the rules , that "old" is a completely non-descriptive adjective that absolutely does not help to identify a game, like, at all . Unless you specify the exact, or at least approximate time period when you played the game , you significantl...

I used to go to the library as a kid and their PC's had an old game where you could build a single town. I hope you do realise that there is no way to infer from this the time of the described events (and hence, the time when this game might have been released). Please provide helpful information ....

There's a level editor for Warcraft: Orcs & Humans but I wasn't able to run it in Wine.
I've found a number of user-made levels for the game recently.

Just found this neat looking RTS w/ RPG elements: Loria: Rage of Chaos This game has been released. They changed the art style from pixelish to something like an advanced Warcraft II art made in the era of StarCraft , with Warcraft III elements like heroes with abilities and items. The official sit...

I recall one team being red and one being blue in color.

Warcraft 1 user-made maps
Now that the first Warcraft game is sold again, I took a little interest in the user-made content created for the game. Blizzard never released any development tools for Warcraft besides the unit stats editor, but a certain BJ Pollard reverse-engineered the map format and in 1995 wrote and made publ...

Yes, more info is always helpful if only because we can use the clues for the game browser in MobyGames. I'm assuming that the game you're looking is for Windows (if not please specify platform), and since you can level up it probably goes in the RPG department. So here's a list of Windows side view...
